Celebrating World Environment Day with a Cool Idea from Mom! Today, on World Environment Day, I want to celebrate a small win for our planet that unfolded in my own home last week. With the summer heat scorching down, the question of keeping cool came up. The easy solution, for many, was an AC. But my mom, ever resourceful and conscious, had a different idea. She opted for vettiver curtains! For those unfamiliar, vettiver curtains are a traditional and eco-friendly way to cool down a home. Made from the roots of vettiver, these curtains work through evaporative cooling. By keeping them damp, they draw warm air in and release a cool, refreshing fragrance - all for 1/4th of the cost of an AC! In our case, we got them for around ₹4000, a far cry from the ₹20,000 price tag of an AC. This wasn't just about saving money, though that's a great bonus. It was about making a conscious choice for the environment. By opting for a natural cooling solution, Mom reduced our reliance on energy-guzzling ACs and their impact on the environment and also health of her children. It's a small step, but it's a reminder that sometimes the coolest solutions are the greenest ones.
