Have you ever noticed that a bronze medalist is usually happier than a silver medalist at the end of a competition? As we're seeing in the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympics, this trend is quite apparent. This isn't just a coincidence; numerous studies have shown it to be true by analyzing the reactions of silver and bronze medalists. Logically, you might think a silver medalist would be happier than a bronze medalist. But the human mind doesn’t follow simple math. This happens because of something called counterfactual thinking. A silver medalist often thinks, "If only I had done a bit better, I could have won gold." Meanwhile, a bronze medalist thinks, "At least I made it onto the podium!" Winning a silver medal often comes after losing the gold, but winning a bronze medal comes after securing a place with a victory. This phenomenon reflects our own lives. We often overlook what we have and feel disappointed by what we lack. Let’s appreciate our blessings, which are far more numerous than our problems if we start counting. Life is full of choices. Always count your blessings to stay positive and motivated.
