⚠️ HR matters ! The legal HR environment in France is particularly complex, and I hope the below visual reminder will help. In France, most large international companies operate with an internal HR department. Small international subsidiaries may consider that HR is of no importance in France. That’s nonsense ‼️ A year ago, I was contacted by a UK company – with around 12 employees in their French office. They needed some support to manage the French team (not so French as the team was made of 8 different nationalities). They were only tied by French labor law and not affiliated to a collective bargaining agreement. They definitely needed to fill some gaps and upgrade their HR framework to support their business development in France. After an audit, this is how I supported them: ✅ Creation of mandatory documents and processes such as : · Home office-remote work rules – “Charte de télétravail” setting the rules for all employees and thus avoiding petty negotiations over who is working from home when and how. · Set up the 2 Mandatory meetings with employees. · Right to Disconnect rules. · Business travel insurance upgrade. · Employee’s handbook. ✅ Creation two Company Agreements allowing : · The implementation of a new type of permanent contract increasing the employee’s responsibility and autonomy. · Adapting the French paid holiday period to coincide with the UK office – easier to manage the international team’s time off ! ✅ Creation of three Unilateral decisions : · To upgrade the health insurance for employees, ensuring better health coverage. · To introduce lunch vouchers for the French team : that’s a must-have in France to attract international talent ! · To introduce Sustainable Mobility package because this client is into environmental and social responsibility, and to reduce its carbon footprint And, of course, the famous election of the Employee’s representative, which can be seen as a burden from abroad, but rest assured, we rolled it out nicely and smoothly, with no pain 😉 My role as an HR expert was to support the management team in making decisions, help them to have a helicopter view regarding French HR processes, support and educate the HR team based in the UK.
