Workforce development shouldn't begin in high school, but rather earlier. Research has shown that students begin to lose interest and disengage in school during middle school years. Losing interest may lead to dropping out. Dropping out means losing the opportunity at a sustainable career. Middle school is the PRIME time to begin intentionally showing students the connection between school and the workforce. Teacher networks can be incredibly effective in addressing student diversity in several ways: Professional Development-Through workshops, conferences, and collaborative sessions, teachers can learn about culturally responsive teaching, differentiated instruction, and other effective practices. Resource sharing and mentorship can be precious for teachers new to working with diverse student populations. Advocacy and Policy Influence and collaborative Problem-Solving: Teacher networks serve as valuable platforms for collaboration, learning, and advocacy, enabling educators to work together effectively to address the diverse needs of students and create more equitable learning environments.

The growing chronic absenteeism crisis has profound implications for student academic achievement, engagement, and future success. That’s why Digital Promise has launched Chronic Absenteeism: Insights and Innovations, a six-month program engaging 16 school districts nationwide in tackling the complex issue of chronic absenteeism through a blend of rigorous research, district-community collaboration, and multi-tiered approaches. The potential impact of this initiative is far reaching, with the cohort representing more than 210,000 students across the country.
