An IT job is most commonly some type of computer support job. The job titles for IT jobs could be: Desktop Support Engineer, Computer Consultant, Programmer Analyst, LAN Engineer, WAN Engineer, Network Security Consultant, Database Programmer, CIO (chief information officer), Systems Administrator, Microsoft Administrator, Unix Systems Administrator. I have had a lot of honest conversations with candidates recently around the state of the market and what it means for them. Some candidates were referred to me, others have worked with us in the past and then there are those that have applied for new opportunities. The crux of it is, the market is candidate heavy at the moment. As employers, we once again find ourselves a bit spoilt for choice after having previously worked to the demands of candidates and what they want. This has meant when speaking with some candidates, their expectations for salary/hourly rates is through the roof... Like the market this will shift and we will hopefully find ourselves back at a happy (and reasonable) medium - soon. While the market is candidate heavy, it is still nice to see some awesome opportunities coming through from our clients. **My One Year at Tek-Experts Lagos** They say the journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. It’s now been a year since I started my role as a Level 2 Support Engineer at Tek-Experts, and the journey has been incredible. I've had the opportunity to work hands-on with project-based tools that offer real-world experience in supporting Microsoft 365 Exchange Online customers. With each case I pick up and resolve, my knowledge of the technology grows. Working as an Exchange Online engineer has pushed me into a continuous cycle of research, learning, and collaboration with colleagues. Some issues take longer to solve than expected, but the satisfaction of eventually finding the solution is unmatched. Achieving five-star customer satisfaction (CSAT) ratings has become a rewarding validation of my efforts. After six months, I was transferred to the Security and Compliance team, where I now support Microsoft customers with issues related to this specialized area. I provide day-to-day technical support, helping customers implement and manage security and compliance measures within Microsoft 365 to ensure data protection and regulatory adherence. My work involves assisting with configuring retention policies to meet data retention requirements and supporting encryption solutions like Azure Information Protection to safeguard data in transit and at rest. In summary, the beginning of this journey was challenging, but it has improved steadily over time. Tuckman's model of team development—forming, storming, norming, and performing—has resonated with me as we continue to grow and progress as a team.
