The 2024 edition of the NetZeroCitiesEU Mission Conference ‘𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 – 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐍𝐞𝐮𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧’ is starting today in Valencia.   metaCCAZE Project is excited to participate in a peer-to-peer session (P2P) between cities from the different Horizon Europe projects funded under the Cities’ Mission call. Alessandro Paolo Giovannini from AMAT Agenzia Mobilità, Ambiente e Territorio will discuss Milan mobility challenges and how the metaCCAZE project will help leverage them. Many other metaCCAZE cities will participate in the conference. 🏙 Local governments are at the forefront of managing crises, including climate change. Capacity building is essential to equipping cities and communities with the right skills and expertise to mitigate its effects and achieve climate neutrality, but growing needs and limited resources make this a challenge. #PilotCities Câmara Municipal de Lisboa and Lunds kommun have designed their Pilot Activities to address these needs and create the conditions for innovative solutions to be developed! Lisbon recognised the need for increased coordination among all local actors to achieve the holistic vision required for effective climate action. Their Pilot, ‘LX Climate Lab’, will set up various structures and events to break down silos, encourage community involvement, and leverage innovative solutions to accelerate climate action in Lisbon. The city of Lund in Sweden has developed ‘CoPilot Lund’ to establish a new city transition support function, foster collaboration between city departments, enhance competencies across departments. Securing investment is also an important part of their Pilot Project: 80% of investment in climate-related initiatives need to come from sources external to the city, so the Pilot Activity will engage external stakeholders for this financing and investment. To participate, simply propose a climate problem affecting your area, whether it’s small or large, and collaborate with others to find technological or social innovation solutions. ✅ Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) NTNU Smart Sustainable Cities aims to create climate-positive cities and communities in cooperation with public and private sectors, community and grassroot organisations, art and culture, academia and other societal stakeholders. We coordinate several projects with Norwegian, Nordic and European cities and stakeholders. In CrAFt (Creating Actionable Futures), we support more than 70 European cities, their stakeholders and their students, in making their climate transitions inclusive, sustainable and beautiful. The NEB-STAR New European Bauhaus Lighthouse project is one of the six first NEB demonstrators supported by the European Commission, with Stavanger as NEB Lighthouse to showcase in practice how a city can transform from an oil-based to a climate-neutral, inclusive, beautiful and sustainable city in cooperation with its commercial and societal stakeholders. NEB-STAR cooperates closely with the Danish-led DESIRE project and other Nordic stakeholders. In the Re-Value innovation project, we work with 9 waterfront cities, local stakeholders and transversal partners on re-valuing urban design and planning in the face of climate change.
