💡 Stadt Mannheim has a long history of innovation, from the invention of the bicycle to the world's first rocket-powered aircraft. Today, the city is using this innovative spirit to tackle the challenge of climate change and inspiring other European cities along the way. 🤝 Mannheim is working with other German #PilotCities Stadt Aachen and Stadt Münster on their ‘CoLAB – Committed to Local Climate Action Building’ Pilot Activity. They are not only focusing on citizen engagement and behaviour change to reduce emissions, but are going even further and putting people at the centre of policy, by understanding the values and norms that inform their behaviour, and using this knowledge to make the sustainable choice the easier choice. The House of Change platform is a key part of the CoLAB project which harnesses radical collaboration within and between cities, as partners bring residents into their cities’ climate plans and mobilise them to act sustainably. Mannheim is committed to putting people at the centre of climate action and using citizen feedback to inform policy and initiatives. Exciting news regarding one of the fields of the City Institute – the Green Deal! Another Eurointegration endeavor of the City Institute has been successfully funded under the Interreg Europe program. The REFOCUS project is designed within a consortium involving 10 partners from 6 EU countries and 1 candidate country for EU accession. It aims to exchange insights and experiences in sustainable urban mobility and climate neutrality. As part of this collaboration, we plan to work extensively on policies that will promote the resilience of the transportation system and road safety in the city. For more detailed information, please follow the link: https://lnkd.in/ginVAi72 In addition, this project synergizes with our ongoing initiatives, which include: - SPARCS (Horizon 2020 program) - DISTENDER (Horizon Europe program) - Support DHC (LIFE program) - U-CAN (Horizon Europe program) Furthermore, our team is in the process of finalizing a grant agreement for the Enable DHC project and eagerly awaits updates on funding for several other projects. Simultaneously, we are actively engaged in twinning programs such as SCALE-UP, REALLOCATE, and DivAirCity to explore innovative solutions and initiatives. There are many opportunities, but keeping up with everything can be challenging. Therefore, we invite organizations interested in developing innovative practices for cities within EU programs to collaborate with us.

How can public funds drive climate-neutral solutions in your city? 🌍 We just wrapped up our webinar on “Leveraging Public Funds for Climate-Neutral Solutions,” packed with insights and practical examples on creating sustainable urban environments! Mari Hukkalainen emphasised the pivotal role of local governments in fostering climate-neutral projects through collective action. We explored real-world implementations from the SPARCSeu project and the NetZero Cities initiative. Solène Gautron introduced us to the NEBA: New European Bauhaus Initiative, focusing on sustainability, inclusivity, and beauty in urban design. This initiative supports grassroots projects with tools, standards, and guidelines for integration. We also discussed four major upcoming EU calls for proposals. These calls target specific areas for innovation and research, including rethinking urban spaces towards climate neutrality, local measures against pollution, sustainable mobility management, and integrated periurban areas in the transition towards climate neutrality. Various tools and platforms were highlighted to aid cities and organizations, such as the NetZero Cities knowledge portal and the New European Bauhaus community. 🚲 Want to apply to these calls? 🌍✨ Economic strategies with environmental goals in Sweden! Our pilot program in #Sweden focuses on key sectors such as #transport, #construction, and #negativeemissions in #Helsingborg, #Kristianstad and #Mariestad. In collaboration with the SEI — Stockholm Environment Institute, the municipalities are set to analyze emissions trends, design actionable plans for #climateneutrality and #resilience, and calculate necessary investments. This project not only evaluates the cities' experiences with climate change but also aims to enhance community engagement and inclusivity. Key objectives include: ✨Developing financing ✨Business plans for lower-income neighborhoods ✨Cross-sectorial integration and governance Take a look at our Pilot in Swedish cities! Together, we can pave the way towards climate-neutral and resilient urban environments. 🌱💚 #ATLAST #ClimateAction #SustainableCities #EnvironmentalGoals
