My thoughts with Andrew Clark in Utility Week on how Energy Systems Catapult sees GB Energy leveraging investment at the local level by funding and supporting every area to have a Local Area Energy Plan. There's lots of discussion on what the sparkly unicorn might be, but one of the key roles I see it having is that GB Energy can help de-risk investment and bridge the gap between local ambition and capacity, and accelerate the pace and scale up of local clean energy projects. How we navigate the Net Zero journey in a fair and just way must underpin every policy decision. By funding LAEPs, GB Energy will ensure every place has a voice in the clean energy transition. https://lnkd.in/ger2PnXG

Big thanks to Globuc and Clean Air Task Force for organising yesterday's insightful webinar on how Central and Eastern Europe is driving innovation in #CCS, ahead of the Go Net-Zero Energy Summit. During the webinar, moderated by our Policy Advisor Hanna Biro, she asked both the audience and speakers: What would be the single most impactful action to accelerate the scaling up of CCS in the region? The top 2 responses: 👉 A supportive policy framework at the national level, providing much-needed clarity and reducing investment risks. 👉 Increased funding opportunities to bridge the gap until the CO2 market becomes self-sufficient. This takeaway highlights the importance of combining strong policy with sustained financial support to unlock CCS’s full potential in the region. Let’s keep the momentum building! 🔗 Check out Bellona's engagement in the CEE over the years: https://lnkd.in/d-6FKaAE Dr. Daniel Kitscha European Commission James Cogan ClonBio Group Limited Codie Rossi Clean Air Task Force Konstantin Bojinov ANRAV / First CCUS Project in Eastern Europe Leszek Pufelski Holcim Polska
Today, as part of the Net Zero Energy Talks series, we hosted a fantastic webinar exploring how Central and Eastern Europe is driving innovation in carbon capture and storage (CCS). A huge thank you to Hanna Biro for leading this discussion, and our speakers! One of the key takeway from the discussions was the vital role of regulatory clarity and domestic storage solutions in driving down costs and accelerating CCS project development. One quote that stuck with me: "The ball is in the member states' court for national policies to drive CCS initiatives." This is exactly what we aim to achieve at our Go Net-Zero Energy Summit: bringing together national and European regulators, project owners, energy and technology companies to discuss how we can align efforts for a sustainable energy transition. I thank the team of Clean Air Task Force for their support in making this webinar a success! And well done team Globuc! #CCUS #EnergyTransition #CEE
