Building our own skids give us the ability to adapt and learn as we grow. We use big heavy I-beam for all of our skids, the skid pictured is 53 pounds per foot of I-beam. This overkill approach to building makes them run much better when the installation of them is less than perfect. We have seen other skids in the field that are built from channel iron, the result of that particular build was when the belt was sufficiently tight it pulled both ends of the skid off the ground. We had zero deflection with this skid, this is the benefit of having a company build you something that knows how to work on it and what it takes to do it right. General Electric - Sychronous Machines can have large airgaps and very little reduction in magnetic efficiency. Look at this huge 24.5 mm gap. This is not true of 3 Phase Induction Squirrel Cage Machine - that induce currents the cage which is shorted. Inspection of the original 50 kW and less machines that Nikola Tesla used the rotor had two independent coil windings. The stator had a square not delta winding. That means it had a extra coil and a extra wire connecting that type of system. BE Lamme (Chief Engineer - Vet Westinghouse 1889 to 1924) referred to it as 4 Phase, but also 2 Phases. So why is both referrences true? 3 Phase to be reliable over 99.x percent (continuous 1 year) - must have 6 wire. Efficiencies of machines maximum also happens to be less than 99.2 percent. 5000 kVA is 98.5 percent. 500 kV is 97 percent. Tesla machines and the system is exceptionally less losses, which is primarily associated with metal properties - true resistance. L and C losses are practically zero. It was AEG and Edison that won the Phase Order Wars. Edison may have lost DC Grid - but notice it is coming back. The Generators made for Brazil - by Siemens and ABB, is considerable larger than this General Electric Machine. 800 MW and the speed was very slow. 3 Gorges Dam is even larger in terms of total MVA.
