My latest in ZDNet: Digital twins are kind of a "flight simulator" for the business. But like flight simulators used to train pilots, you really have to make sure every detail is updated and accurate. For companies, accuracy, complexity, costs, and skills availability may make it difficult to get the most out of digital twins, and even potentially misrepresent or miss actual changes in the status of systems or facilities.

With healthcare, what if we have the right answers to the wrong questions? I'm currently engrossed in Walter Isaacson's biography of Elon Musk, and like many, I find it captivating. Musk is undoubtedly a polarizing figure, yet his achievements in establishing leading enterprises in automotive, aerospace, and telecommunications are undeniable. His ventures, including the world's top car manufacturer, a pioneering private space exploration company, and the innovative Starlink project, all reflect his unique successful approach to very different businesses. Musk has revolutionized multiple industries, with more on the horizon, by challenging the status quo and employing his "First Principles Algorithm," which includes: 1. Question Every Requirement and ask exactly who created it 2. Delete any part or process you can 3. Simplify and Optimize 4. Accelerate Cycle Time 5. Automate One can't help but ponder the impact Musk could have on healthcare. Applying his approach could dramatically cut costs and enhance quality and outcomes. It's probable that many outdated practices would be discarded, revealing a reliance on traditional methods that are not relevant any longer on all sides of healthcare. While we might think we have the correct answers in healthcare, it's possible we're not even asking the right questions. Also, check out Dr. Eric Bricker's video on this topic 2 months ago.
