First-year student dropout rates remain a significant challenge in higher education, especially among those from equity groups. These students often face unique barriers, such as financial pressures, lack of support, and the feeling of not belonging, which can lead to early disengagement and eventual dropout. Addressing this issue requires a proactive, student-centered approach. Institutions must focus on creating strong support networks, enhancing accessibility to resources, and fostering an inclusive campus culture from day one. Early intervention programs, tailored mentoring, and community-building initiatives can make a substantial difference in helping these students transition successfully into university life. Reducing dropout rates is not just about retention; it's about ensuring that all students, regardless of their background, have the opportunity to succeed and fulfill their potential. As leaders in education, we must prioritise these efforts to create a more equitable and supportive environment for every student. If you're looking to develop strategies to support first-year students, particularly those from equity groups, contact DVE at info@dvesolutions.com.au or visit our website at https://lnkd.in/gkrUZTDS. #HigherEducation #StudentSuccess #EquityInEducation #Retention #FirstYearExperience #Inclusion #Diversity

MDRC P-TECH 9-14 Evaluation "By the end of the first year of postsecondary education, 2.6 percent of female and 1.8 percent of male P-TECH 9-14 students had earned degrees, compared with virtually no students from the comparison group, of either gender. These impacts for both genders are statistically significant". There are many students who need intensive care education. The same bell schedule for all students does not work. Many students require a boarding reality if we are serious about reaching those who are furthest away from the sphere of success. #WeArePTECH #skillsbuild #skillsfirst #skills2030 MDRC P-TECH 9-14 Evaluation "By the end of the first year of postsecondary education, 2.6 percent of female and 1.8 percent of male P-TECH 9-14 students had earned degrees, compared with virtually no students from the comparison group, of either gender. As I embark on my doctoral journey, I am delving into research that highlights the crucial link between early years education and post-secondary opportunities. With a dual perspective as a career practitioner and educator, I am driven by curiosity and concern. The research emphasizes the need for career education from the early stages of schooling, challenging the common notion that career guidance primarily revolves around university applications in later years. Excited by these findings, I am dedicated to challenging the prevailing misconception that career guidance at the secondary level is solely about university applications. Over the next 3 years, I aim to conduct further research to pave the way for enhanced career guidance processes for students, parents, educators, and career counselors. Together, we can create valuable opportunities and foster informed decisions in the realm of career development. #careereducation #careeradvice #research

What are prospective students telling us? Contemporary college students seek a university experience beyond the traditional classroom, valuing community engagement, global partnerships, and technology. They want a close-knit campus with real-world connections and international diversity. Transparency in tuition usage, investment in student initiatives, and support for minority groups are expected. Flexibility in coursework post-COVID-19 is crucial, requiring diverse learning methods. Effective communication, business perks, mentorship, and career support are also desired. In essence, students seek a supportive university experience focusing on community, partnerships, innovation, flexibility, and communication for their personal and professional growth. #UniversitySupport #GlobalStudentsAssistance #StudentExperience #InternationalStudentServices #CampusHelp #StudyAbroadSupport #DiversityandInclusion #StudentWellbeing #CrossCulturalCommunication #HigherEdAssistance #StudentResources #AcademicAdvising #MultilingualSupport #StudentOrientation #CulturalIntegration

Companies often prioritize hiring graduates from prestigious and expensive universities like LUMS, Beaconhouse, and FAST due to the assumption that these institutions produce top-tier talent. However, this practice can inadvertently create barriers for students from more affordable universities who possess equal potential but lack the financial resources for elite education. By favouring candidates from expensive universities, companies perpetuate inequality in the job market, denying opportunities to talented individuals from less privileged backgrounds. It's imperative for companies to recognise talent beyond the pedigree of universities and provide equal opportunities to all aspiring professionals, regardless of their educational backgrounds and financial means. #EqualOpportunities #TalentBeyondPedigree #BreakBarriers #EducationEquality #MeritocracyMatters
