Thrilled to announce that the paper "Econometric analysis of the international demand for tourist services in Argentina, 2007-2019", which I co-wrote with two of my students at the University of Moron in Argentina -Karen Crapanzano and Romina Bernal - has been approved for publication at the Atlantic Review of Economics. Using non-linear autoregressive distributed lag (NARDL) models, we report different effects of the various explanatory variables per tourist region in Argentina. We report significant effects from the lagged levels of the number of nights spent per tourist and -in certain regions- from the economic activity level in the countries of origin and the rates of robberies and thefts per person in the region. Crucially, the exchange rate has not had a significant effect on the international inflows of tourists over the period. It will be out in the next issue of the Atlantic Review of Economics.

🌍 Thrilled to share insights from my recent presentation at the 47th EBES Conference in Berlin, Germany this April 2024. Our paper, "The Role of Community Based Tourism in Developing Human Resource," explores the transformative potential of community-based tourism (CBT) for economic and community development, particularly in the Dhofar region of Oman. The paper was presented at the conference thanks to Omar Durrah. This was a great collaboration with colleagues specially Rabia Imran, PhD, FHEA, CMBE , @lujain El-maghraby, and MOHAMMED WAMIQUE HISAM Ph.D. CMBE 📈 The tourism sector is pivotal to economic prosperity, and CBT emerges as a sustainable model that not only promotes economic growth but also enhances the learning capacities and welfare of local communities. Our research aims to harness CBT to reduce unemployment rates among Omani workers by developing local human resources and improving economic outcomes for indigenous populations. Through this discussion, we explored effective strategies for utilizing human resource development tools within the tourism industry, providing actionable insight topolicymakers, entrepreneurs, and community stakeholders. The goal is to foster a deeper understanding of CBT’s benefits and challenges and to outline practical applications for enhancing community welfare through tourism. 🤝 Looking forward to continuing the conversation on how we can collectively leverage community-based tourism for sustainable development. Let’s discuss how these insights can be applied globally for greater community empowerment and economic resilience! #CommunityBasedTourism #HumanResourceDevelopment #TourismSector #EconomicGrowth #SustainableDevelopment #EBESConference2024 #Berlin #Oman https://lnkd.in/eRgTQRxk
