Breaking the Silence – Amplifying the Voices of Survivors Survivor stories are the most powerful tool we have in the fight against modern slavery. These voices not only highlight the harsh realities of exploitation but also inspire change and drive action. When survivors share their lived experiences, they humanise the issue, challenge perceptions, and remind us why this work is so important. In Trauma & Recovery, Judith Herman describes the 3 stages of recovery as “establishing safety, reconstructing the trauma story, and restoring the connection between survivors and their community.” Domestic violence advocacy work is woven into all 3 stages. An example: - shelters & planning for safety - talking through the power & control wheel to deconstruct the abuse patterns - support groups where safe community begins to re-establish Every survivor deserves an advocate.
