The Battle of Adwa was a significant event in 1896, where Ethiopian forces defeated the Italian colonial army. It's celebrated as a symbol of African resistance against European colonialism. It's unfortunate that such divisions have emerged around the interpretation of the Battle of Adwa. It's essential to recognize and honor the collective effort of all Ethiopians who fought against colonialism. Instead of focusing on divisions, acknowledging the victory as a shared heritage could help foster unity and national pride. Unity and shared recognition of historical achievements can be powerful tools for building a strong and inclusive society. Embracing the common heritage of the Battle of Adwa could serve as a reminder of the strength that comes from solidarity and cooperation. Sometimes, historical events can become politicized or misunderstood over time, leading to divisions and differing interpretations. Education and open dialogue can help bridge these gaps by fostering understanding and appreciation for shared histories. It may take time, but promoting unity and emphasizing common heritage can gradually help people see beyond differences and come together.

Deputy Military Advisor & Police Advisor, and Gender Focal Point at the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Nations
The recognition of diversity as a strength in teams and organizations has increased tolerance for outliers in the workforce. However, allowing people to be different is not the same as including them. Accommodating differences and ensuring people can be themselves amongst others are essential ingredients to unlock their talents and enabling them to function in their full capacity. It’s a pity, truly accommodating and including outliers so they can also feel comfortable in the workplace meets resistance from those who perceive it as a threat to their own comfort. But inclusion is for the benefit of everyone. #diversityandinclusion #outliers #comfortzone #tolerance

🌿 Reflecting on ANZAC Day: Learning from Courage, Resilience, and Unity 🌿 As we commemorate ANZAC Day, we honor the remarkable courage, resilience, and unity exemplified by the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps during times of adversity. We believe there are profound lessons to be learned from the ANZAC spirit that resonate deeply with our values and ethos. In the face of unprecedented challenges, the ANZACs demonstrated unwavering commitment, adaptability, and a willingness to overcome obstacles together. Their camaraderie and sense of duty serve as timeless reminders of the importance of teamwork, collaboration, and leadership in navigating complex landscapes. As the bugle blew and the sun crested the horizon, I realised that, as a young person, it is easy to view #AnzacDay as insignificant. Many Australians do not think of it at all. I pondered, not for the first time, why this day is so important. ~ YourCommonwealth - the Commonwealth Magazine #auspol #ausnews #AustralianHistory #war #sacrifice #history #Australia #auspol2024
