This week I planned to take a day off to go climbing with my brother. Instead, it rained and something even better happened.
I had a fun morning with my brother, and then I had the two highest-impact work hours of my year. 📈
Here’s why I was in a total flow state:
This was a bonus work session.
I had ZERO expectations that I would do any work. This unleashed me from my normal routines and allowed me to pick projects I normally wouldn’t have selected.
As a result, in my two hours of work I:
🥇 Organized numerous client and project Notion pages
🥈 Picked a flow for a new podcast project I’m working on
🥉 Finalized the arc of an offsite I’m leading
Flow requires BOTH structure and creativity.
To consistently produce excellent work you need discipline and process. And, every now and then you need to blow up that process to unleash powerful results. 💣
So here’s a tip:
▶ Once every quarter, pick a Monday and plan for a day off.
▶Tell yourself (and really trick yourself) that you will spend that day going on an adventure and not working.
▶Pick something fun to do that day, then start early and end around 1 or 2 pm. It could be a hike, going to a museum, etc.
🗝 That afternoon, find yourself with an open laptop and give yourself the option to work. You don’t have to work, but maybe you’ll want to.
The change in your normal process, the lack of any expectation, and the buzz from a morning well spent are all ingredients that can lead to 2 hours of work that deliver 50 hours worth of results.
Try it and enjoy!

Watch when you buy them , try to use a 3rd party retailer like Amazon who is following the law (at least in my experience).
