CEO of Smart Air Defense | Enhancing Indoor Air Quality for Safer, Healthier Learning Environments in K12 Schools.
Just finished reading a fantastic book by Steve Gilliland, the keynote speaker at the NYSSFA conference! Had the unexpected pleasure of grabbing dinner with him at the hotel bar – such a great guy! This weekend, I took his book with me on my trip to visit my daughter at Florida State University (Go Noles! Tough season, but we had a blast regardless). His book, It Is What You Make It, really resonated with me, especially after our breakout session at the conference, where we focused on aging school buildings and the challenges of upgrading their HVAC systems. Too many schools are stuck with the attitude of “It Is What It Is” when it comes to poor ventilation. Many simply can’t afford the hefty price tags of traditional HVAC solutions. A recent example: a New England district just approved a $39M retrofit for only three school buildings! Meanwhile, the systems we’re designing can bring that cost under $10M, all while exceeding the toughest ventilation standards. The difference is staggering! It’s time to rethink what’s possible for our schools because "It Is What You Make It" and we may be able to help!

When students weigh their options between off-campus housing and on-campus residences, safety often plays a pivotal role in their decision-making process. Enhancing the visibility and strengthening security measures on off-campus properties not only fosters peace of mind for current and prospective residents but also contributes to the overall safety and well-being of off-campus communities. Discover how we're revolutionizing campus security and enhancing peace of mind for students and communities alike in our blog: https://hubs.ly/Q02qgzpj0

Senior Lecturer in Primary Education at University of East London, Fellow of the CCT, education researcher/writer at the interface of Christian faith, education and church
As we wrestle with the dehumanising constraints and intellectual poverty of the ITT Core Content Framework in England, thinking about what our societies really need educating in brings concepts like the #commongood and #civicresponsibility and #hospitality to the fore. Why aren't we privileging the teaching of these in teacher education institutions? This is a fantastic example of how to approach this with students from The Kuyers Institute.
In Lesson 1: A House, students explore the images of walls (safety), doors (openness), and tables (hospitality), as a scaffold for thinking about how to deal with others who might be different from us. Find Lesson 1 at https://lnkd.in/dtXA8Ti3
