UHU. ToT. ? What metric do you use to see how active your ambulances are? Do you regularly evaluate the system to see how evenly distributed the work is? Do you look for confounders? Does one crew have longer scene times because they respond to more nursing homes? Does one crew get in service more quickly? Does one floor of a hospital do a good job or a bad job with getting your crews out the door? Imbalances can create tension between crews. Is it being Dispatch’s “favorite” crew or ? Look for leveling opportunities. Make your crews smile. #EMS #ContinuousImprovement

Just read this article that really made me stop and think. Did you know that in South Dakota, three big health systems have put together over $160,000 for an ad campaign about the nursing shortage? And here's the kicker - in these ads, Governor Kristi Noem is playing a nurse! Now, don’t get me wrong, I get the idea behind it. They want to highlight the serious need for nurses in the state. But here's my question: why are we paying someone to act like a nurse when that money could actually be going to real nurses who are out there on the front lines? I mean, think about it. Nurses are the backbone of our healthcare system. They're working long hours, often in super stressful situations, and let's be honest, they're not always getting the recognition or the pay they deserve. So, when I see a chunk of money going towards someone pretending to be a nurse for an ad, it just doesn't sit right with me. It's like we're missing the whole point. We don't need people playing dress-up as nurses; we need real nurses. And more importantly, we need to value those nurses. That money could be used for so many better things – better wages, better working conditions, scholarships for nursing students... the list goes on. Let's not just talk about how much we need nurses. Let's show them we value them with actions, not just advertisements. https://lnkd.in/e2VBE5gD

If you are applying for DTC for the first time for yourself or a dependent, remember that the involvement of a medical practitioner who can certify the effects of impairment is required. This can include medical doctors, nurse practitioners, and occupational therapists, among others. Eligible persons can claim DTC on the tax return of 2023 after CRA approval. It could take up to 8 weeks for a decision on an application, so plan for it today. #dtc #disabilitytaxcredit #disabilityassistance #taxreturns #taxfiling

The Courage to Speak Up: Transforming Challenges into Safer Healthcare A recent harrowing incident at Blackpool Victoria Hospital has underscored the vital importance of vigilance and integrity in healthcare. Nurses Catherine Hudson and Charlotte Wilmot engaged in reprehensible conduct, compromising patient safety for their convenience. This incident, while deeply disturbing, also highlights the crucial role of speaking up against wrongdoing. The student nurse who reported the misconduct displayed extraordinary courage and ethical fortitude. In an environment where hierarchy often silences voices, this act of bravery not only prevented further harm but also served as a beacon of integrity in our profession. This case is a stark reminder that patient safety is paramount and must be guarded against any form of compromise. As healthcare professionals, our duty extends beyond treatment to ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all patients. We must foster a culture where speaking up is not only encouraged but expected. This means supporting those who raise concerns, irrespective of their position. Institutions like Cleveland Clinic London are leading the way in creating such cultures. Let's take a moment to commend the bravery of the student nurse who stepped up. Their actions exemplify the kind of ethical responsibility that is the backbone of quality healthcare. As we reflect on this incident, let us recommit ourselves to uphold the highest standards of patient care and to support those who speak up for the vulnerable. The safety of our patients and the integrity of our profession depend on it. #HealthcareEthics #PatientSafety #SpeakUp #leadership https://lnkd.in/eW_Fj9dm

Well done that courageous student nurse for speaking out. Well done Blackpool Victoria hospital leaders for hearing and responding. Health and social care needs more courageous people who are prepared to put their heads above the parapet by speaking up and more leaders (and regulators) who are sufficiently courageous to listen and act in the best interests of those they serve.
