🌟 Maternal Health Awareness Day 2025 🌟 Today, we recognize Maternal Health Awareness Day, a crucial opportunity to spotlight the importance of protecting and supporting birthing people during every step of their healthcare journey. At the Maryland Patient Safety Center, we are committed to advancing maternal health and safety. Today, we’re proud to convene healthcare providers and leaders to address a critical need: equipping emergency departments (non-obstetric providers) with the knowledge and tools to effectively respond to obstetric emergencies, especially in the postpartum time period. Obstetric emergencies can occur anywhere, and timely, informed care can save lives. By fostering collaboration between obstetric and non-obstetric teams, we aim to strengthen the safety net for pregnant and postpartum patients, ensuring no one is left behind when it comes to high-quality, lifesaving care. We invite healthcare professionals across Maryland to join us in this important conversation all year long, and be part of the collective effort to improve outcomes for mothers and their families. Let’s work together to make Maryland a leader in maternal safety and equity! 💙 Let’s continue to amplify the message: Healthy Moms, Healthy Communities. #MaternalHealthAwarenessDay #PatientSafety #MaternalHealth #ObstetricEmergencies #MarylandPatientSafetyCenter #HealthEquity

Today is Maternal Health Awareness Day. Here's the reality: maternal mortality rates in the United States remain alarmingly HIGH, with significant disparities. Data shows that many of these deaths are preventable, and the impact extends far beyond the immediate loss – impacting families, communities, and the healthcare system. We're not letting our foots off of the gas pedal, just like a skilled hunter doesn't relent until the prey is secured. We are ACTIVELY addressing the root causes of maternal mortality and morbidity, including systemic racism, lack of access to quality healthcare, and socioeconomic disparities, while providing evidence-based knowledge and support to improve maternal-infant outcomes. We're going to continue to meet moms where they are and give them exactly what they need to thrive on their journey to motherhood. Let's stay committed to creating healthier and happier moms, babies, and families.
