Duke Energy's #greentariff proposal, allowing large customers to speed up solar farm construction, has been approved by North Carolina regulators despite criticism. Critics argue the plan won't significantly accelerate the state's #cleanenergy transition. While the new tariff offers some benefits, concerns remain about its overall impact and potential limitations for smaller customers. Read more: https://lnkd.in/dZC6D3sU 📰 Energy News Network

We are pleased to have an opportunity to continue to engage in meaningful dialogues with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in the new Federal-State Current Issues Collaborative. Each of the proposed topics has merit and is uppermost in the minds of state regulators. We recently published a new resource adequacy primer, we have a new task force focused on the resolving the challenges of natural gas-electric coordination and we routinely convene webinars and publish resources looking at markets, new technologies and infrastructure. Therefore, NARUC members are uniquely positioned to participate and provide meaningful, practical insights for this new collaborative. The timing is right for us to explore these topics together. https://lnkd.in/ddjSgTR8 #energy #regulators #utilities

Why is solar power surging in Texas much faster than in climate-forward California? A couple of reasons. A recent study by Joshua Rhodes, PhD highlights strong support from rural communities who benefit from stable long-term revenues. This contrasts with a less rural and more difficult citing and permitting environment in California. Another major contributor is ERCOT's "connect and manage" interconnection process that quickly connects new generation resources to the grid. Under this system, projects can be interconnected within 2-3 years; often faster than just the interconnection study process in other regions. If coupled with wholistic proactive transmission planning, this connect and manage interconnection process is likely the most efficient path to accelerate #clean #energy. ISO/RTOs will need to lead and go beyond Federal Energy Regulatory Commission's recent orders to establish this. Report: https://lnkd.in/eDiRs7-t FT Article: https://lnkd.in/eMCrPMxM

A $50 million commitment to MN’s rooftop #solar incentive program is historic. A hard-fought, massive victory for the Minnesota Solar Energy Industries Association (MnSEIA) & our members. More importantly, it’s a win for Minnesotans—especially low to moderated income Minnesotans—looking to lower their utility bills while directly participating in our state’s #cleanenergy transition. This is how the #solarenergy industry is leading with equity in mind. Making sure all Minnesotans & communities benefit in our emerging clean energy economy. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) an obscure organization that no one knew about before the California Electricity Crisis in 2001, has issued some new guidelines regarding transmission. In my opinion, it is the beginning of a long transmission journey to who knows where. America's thirst for electricity continues to grow and sources that generate the power that travels the transmission highways is becoming scarce. TAG Consulting members have been involved with transmission and electricity issues since 1999. We have successes in this space and will do so again when Congress looks at energy next year. #TAGConsultingGroup

This success story serves as a powerful analog for the current work being done on energy transition technologies. Just as the solar industry has reached a tipping point, we are now witnessing a similar momentum building in other areas of energy transition, including wind power, battery storage, hydrogen, carbon capture, and electric vehicles. These technologies are rapidly advancing towards cost-competitiveness, driven by innovation, investment, and an increasing global commitment to decarbonization. The journey to grid parity for solar power was not without its challenges. It required perseverance, collaboration, and a long-term vision. These same qualities are essential as we work to scale up and commercialize other energy transition technologies. We must continue to foster innovation, encourage investment, and create supportive policies that accelerate the adoption of these technologies. As we celebrate the success of the solar industry, let's use it as a source of inspiration and a blueprint for the broader energy transition. By learning from the solar experience, we can navigate the challenges ahead with confidence, knowing that with determination and collaboration, we can achieve a sustainable and low-carbon energy future.
After years of trial, error, and technical evolutions, in 1992, First Solar's predecessor produced a world record-breaking CdTe 47-watt module measuring 60 x 120 centimeters with an efficiency of 6 percent. #FirstSolar25 #AmericanSolar #throwback

This just illustrates why Congress will have to deal with energy in 2025. Energy demand only continues to grow with no end in sight. We must make sure that decisions made in Washington, DC, are right for the country.
