🚀 A Future for Fabricators and Welders We're facing a critical shortage of skilled fabricators and welders in Lancashire and the UK. This shortage is becoming more evident, with many businesses struggling to find qualified candidates. But how can we change this trend? Firstly, it's essential to revamp our approach to vocational education. Colleges must work closely with industries to ensure their courses are up-to-date with the latest technologies and techniques. Real-world experience through apprenticeships and partnerships with local businesses can make a massive difference. Think about it - hands-on learning can be far more impactful than textbook theory. These are highly technical roles requiring precision and a deep understanding of materials and methods. By highlighting successful professionals in the field and demonstrating the exciting projects they've worked on, we can inspire the next generation to consider these rewarding careers. Finally, if you're a business struggling with this shortage, why not invest in training programs, build connections with local colleges? By developing your talent pipeline and offering continuous professional development, you can cultivate the skilled workforce you need. #Fabrication #Welding #SkillsShortage

Impending Shortage of Welders: Potential Impact on Developing Countries USA 🇺🇸 alone are currently facing an alarming predicament—projected shortage of +370,000 welders over next four years-*see the below great ⭐️ post! This scarcity of skilled welding 🧑🏭 professionals has raised concerns about potential impacts not only on the American economy, but also on the developing countries across 🌐. 👨🏭 Welding is crucial for many key sectors, including manufacturing, construction, and a country’s infrastructure development. Shortages of welders in a country as influential as the USA 🇺🇸 will undoubtedly have ripple effects on the global 🌏 markets. The consequences for developing countries, in particular, will be extremely significant. 1️⃣ Firstly, demands for welding services that surge in the wake of the shortages, leads to an increase in outsourcing opportunities. Developing nations with well-established welding industries & any surplus of properly trained & skilled welders will witness a rise in international contracts and major investments for which welders are crucial for the success. This bolsters their economies and provides employment opportunities for their workforce. 2️⃣ Secondly, shortages can also trigger a significant shift in global trade dynamics. Developing countries with an abundance of qualified welders might witness an increased demand for their products and services. Collaborative efforts, such as knowledge transfer and recognized American Welding Society training-certification programs, could also emerge, generating avenues for mutually beneficial partnerships between nations. 🔚 In conclusion, the projected shortfall of welders in US over the next three-five years could potentially have far-reaching impacts on developing countries. While there are both opportunities and challenges associated with the shortages, global collaboration and strategic planning will be key to maximizing the benefits and minimizing the negative effects for all nations involved. American Welding Society is here to work with industries for achieving those required and important Welding Education, Training, Certification and Accreditation needs. #worldbank #apacregion #africa #guyana #southasia #tvet #vietnam #indonesia #malaysia #educatingfortomorrow #weldingcommunity #skilledtrades #skillsshortage #welders

These statistics are no joke. Did you know over 50% of U.S production requires welding? Our mission here at Advanced Welding Institute is to properly train students to become structural and pipe welders to meet the current demand of the industry. #supportthetrades #weldtoabrighterfuture

One of my jobs as an apprentice was assembling the large and heavy cast iron radiators. They are interesting to create. To put one together, you use a large T bar (looks a little like a water stop tap key) that winds in opposing threaded nipples to clamp the pieces of the radiator together. This allows large and heavy radiators to be made in a space where you can’t carry them in whole, (the pictured radiator was nearly 3m long when completed). This is an especially useful feature in large buildings with lots of stairs. From a health and safety POV, It got me thinking that it is a good way of reducing manual handling tasks and making large and heavy loads much more manageable. (Standard steel panel radiators can be very awkward and unwieldy, especially the K2 double panel and fin types). These sectional type radiators are very often seen in period properties and public buildings such as schools and hospitals as they are very durable, can be floor standing and can be made to the size required to heat the space. Not many radiators get assembled and installed like this any more! (It takes quite a while to put one together, if you know you know). On a side note, I wonder how good they are with heat pumps as they have a higher water content? 🤔 #plumbing #heating #radiators #healthandsafety #manualhandling #memories #apprenticeship #ashp

💡 Something BIG is coming. And we’ll need your help… The UK Trade Skills Index said that the construction industry needs close to 1 million new tradespeople before 2032 to meet demand. Nearly a quarter of those must be certified apprentices. On The Tools is planning something that will address the growing skills gap in construction and petition the big players to do something about it. "What can I do about it?!" We hear you ask. We've got two routes for you to support us with this task: 1️⃣ Survey - Answer a few questions, leave your email, and enter a prize draw for the chance to win an 18V Makita cordless combi drill with impact driver twin pack. 2️⃣ Chat - Got an extra strong opinion about the skills shortage? Give us your details and we'll arrange a phone call. 👇 Read the article to find out how to get started #SkillsGap #UKconstruction

Founder of Success Via Apprenticeship Program, Fellow, Institute for Educational Leadership at NYU, Lifetime Legacy Award Recipient, UFT, CTE and Workforce Development Consultant, SME Metal Fabrication, I am CTE !
The recent collision of the container vessel, the Dali with the Francis Scott Key Bridge really highlights the critical shortage in welding and metal fabrication/demolition workers in the maritime sector (and other sectors as well). News reports have said "...that retired welders, burners, ironworkers and others were called back to assist with the salvage operation of the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore. These skilled retirees have been vital in the effort to dismantle and remove the wreckage after the Dali cargo ship struck the bridge. Their expertise is crucial for the complex and dangerous task of cutting and lifting large sections of the damaged structure, ensuring the safety and efficiency of the operation..." That is how critical the workforce shortages are in some of our sectors. The registered apprenticeships exist already and are USDOL approved. Now it is up to employers and organized labor, to work with our secondary and post-secondary CTE programs to make necessary changes. The report posted earlier by William Kraus, MPA, highlighted the shortage of welders in general. This story about a real life situation only highlights the necessity of providing support for training in the metal trades in the field and shops, because the jobs are there. AmeriArc Welding Academy, Clarke Dennis, Chris Lalevee, hey Chris is this relevant to the OEs?

Addressing the climate crisis is going to require way more electricians, HVAC technicians, plumbers and other specialized construction tradespeople than we have today. That’s why it’s so encouraging to read the stats in this piece: Gen Z is driving a spike in vocational school enrollment and demand for paid apprenticeships, and that’s because these non-college career paths offer good, family-sustaining wages and an opportunity for entrepreneurship.
How Gen Z Is Becoming the Toolbelt Generation
