🐴 Exciting Surgical Case: Guttural Pouch Tympany in a Foal 🐴 Patient: Meet our brave young foal, who came to Orthomania with a challenging case of unilateral guttural pouch tympany on the left side. Diagnosis: After a thorough examination and diagnostic imaging, we confirmed the condition. Guttural pouch tympany is a condition where air gets trapped within the pouch and doesn’t dissipate when the foal breathes. A bacterial culture came back positive, adding another layer to the case. Surgical Procedure: Our dynamic team of vet surgeons took on this challenge with precision and expertise. Surgical correction of GPT is technically challenging. We performed a laser fenestrated fistula with the placement of a Foley catheter trans-endoscopically. Because the condition was unilateral, we decided not to fenestrate the median septum. The surgery was a success! The foal is on the path to recovery, thanks to the cutting-edge techniques and teamwork at Orthomania. Watch the video to witness the amazing journey and innovative procedures that led to this successful outcome. You won't want to miss it! 🐎 #medical #healthcare #endoscopy #gastrointestinal #veterinary #equine #orthomania

External fixation is a valuable technique in small animal orthopedic surgery that allows for the stabilization and alignment of fractures, joint injuries, and other musculoskeletal conditions. This method involves the use of pins, wires, and external frames to support and immobilize the affected area, facilitating proper healing and recovery. In small animal orthopedics, external fixation offers several advantages, including the ability to address complex fractures, maintain limb length, and provide stability during the healing process. This technique is particularly beneficial in cases where internal fixation may not be feasible or when there is a need for temporary stabilization before more definitive surgical procedures. By utilizing external fixation in small animal orthopedic surgery, veterinary surgeons can effectively manage a variety of orthopedic conditions, improve patient outcomes, and enhance overall quality of life for their animal patients. This technique requires precision, expertise, and careful postoperative monitoring to ensure optimal results and minimize complications. As a veterinarian dedicated to providing high-quality care for small animal patients, incorporating external fixation into your orthopedic surgical practice can expand your treatment options and enhance your ability to address challenging musculoskeletal issues. By staying current with advancements in orthopedic techniques and equipment, you can continue to deliver exceptional care and positive outcomes for your patients. with dr.
