Meet Daisy! Daisy is a toy poodle who was brought into NEAMC's emergency service this month when she was having trouble delivering her puppies. Our ER team was able to assist and ensure that she was able to deliver safely. In total, Daisy had three puppies who were healthy and VERY cute! Mom and her babies are doing great 💙 Most pets can give birth naturally without assistance, but some mommas may require extra help. If you notice that your pet is straining to give birth, bleeding excessively, or there are large gaps of time in between delivering - you should contact your primary veterinarian or an ER vet near you. NEAMC's ER schedule is available at neamc.com. 📱(508) 584-1600

Pet First Aid Awareness Month is all about empowering pet owners with essential knowledge, including how to check your pet's respiratory rate. Watch their chest movement and count the breaths for six seconds, then multiply by 10 for an accurate count. Normal rates should be under 60 breaths per minute when calm. If it's higher or lower, especially if your pet seems unwell, consult your veterinarian. Staying informed can make all the difference! #BluePearlVet #VeterinaryMedicine #PetVitalSigns #PetFirstAidAwarenessMonth

Create a List of Emergency Contacts and a List of Your Pet’s Medications. Just like people, pets likely have professionals that should be called in an emergency. This can include their primary veterinarian and any specialist they may be seeing. You may also want to include the contact information for any boarding facilities you have used in the past or pet sitters that come to your home when you cannot take your pet with you. Some animals need medications to cure a temporary illness or supplements to manage a chronic condition. It is important that you have a list of these medications and times when they are administered to make sure that whoever is caring for your pet is prepared to administer them.
