Growing a law firm is both exciting and scary. This week I started the process to add a 4th member to our team. When it comes to taking action in my law firm, I almost never hesitate. A challenge comes up. I immediately formulate a plan. And start executing. However, when it comes to hiring new staff, I start to hesitate. Is this the right time to hire? What happens if there is a reduction in new cases? Should I wait until (fill in excuse)? Then I force myself to focus on all of the positive reasons why hiring now makes sense. With a new team member, we can: - Take some pressure off of current team members - Increase the speed in which cases are processed - Provide results to clients at a much faster pace - Increase cash flow month over month Growing a law firm is both exciting and scary. But facing and overcoming the scary times is the best part. Right? #lawfirm #probate

Construction Lawyer | Construction Litigation | Construction Arbitration | Liens, Defects, & Change Orders | Winery Owner @PurNoire
Surprise surprise… we are hiring again! This time we are looking for lawyers. We need a Midlevel Attorney (5 year of litigation experience) for our Houston office and a Senior Attorney (7+ years of litigation experience) for our Dallas office. If you’re seeing this post and you’re a lawyer I already know what you’re probably thinking because the last time we picked off a Senior Associate from Big Law, she was thinking the same things. Now, she’ll tell you herself that joining us was the best career move she’s ever made. So, let me see if I can address some possible questions before they arise: 1. Can they afford me? Honestly, we can pay you a competitive compensation package but if you come from Big Law, we likely cannot match your Big Law salary because we don’t require Big Law hours or rigor. We work hard but no one is expecting you to bill 1800 or 2000+ hours. 2. What’s their billable hour requirement? Around 1600 3. Do they even have the work? This one is always hilarious to me. Umm… YES! We stay really busy doing sophisticated and complex litigation work for great clients and yes, we try cases. 4. Can I work from home? We are in office 4 days and at home 1 day. 5. What’s the culture? We are a pretty close knit, collegial group. In office it’s pretty casual but always professional. In short, if you’re looking to make as much money as possible and you’re willing to do anything for that, we probably are not the right fit. If you meet the experience requirements, want to make good money, have balance, real case responsibility, an opportunity at partner, and be a part of a growing firm, check us out. #LawFirm #Litigation #Attorneys #Associates #OfCounsel #Hiring #EmploymentLaw #ConstructionLaw #EmploymentLaw

Founder who is building a different kind of law firm. Soon accepting new clients. Let’s help each other grow.
Timing is everything.
Corporate groups are starting to hire in Toronto. Don't get me wrong, hiring across M&A and capital markets is not "taking off", but we are seeing some demand for corporate associates with select firms, and this is a shift from what we were seeing in the first three quarters of the year. If you're a mid-level associate at a national firm and are interested in exploring options, reach out to have a confidential conversation. I'm happy to share what we're seeing in the market so you can be ahead of the curve. ___________ Hi, I'm Beth — former lawyer, now legal recruiter in Toronto I help associates and partners make strategic lateral moves Email me to elevate your legal career (beth@smithlegalsearch.com)

Questions that have been raised in recent conversations with new candidates: - How long will the process take - Can I change practice areas - When will my practice area pick up - Is my practice area in demand - Can I work remotely I do not have a crystal ball, but I can tell you that I work tirelessly behind the scenes to align my candidates to positions that meet their search criteria. The entire process from our initial call to receiving an offer can take months. There are of course exceptions. Pivoting or switching practice areas in this market is unlikely. This is more possible for junior associates but again, I am not seeing this trend. Certain practices areas are always in demand and some fluctuate. For instance, litigation has been consistently in demand. (If you are in DC, I am looking at you antitrust litigators!) Most positions are not offering remote work. Again, there are exceptions. In fact (insert shameless plug), I am working on two unposted/exclusive searches which offer a fully remote work arrangement. One position is seeking a litigation attorney with at least 6 years of civil side trial experience. The other opportunity is seeking a real estate finance attorney with at least 7 years of experience. If you are interested in confidentially discussing the market and your potential search, please feel free to reach out : vkrasna@laterallink.com I am happy to dig into your experience, learn about your ideal search objectives and provide some suggestions. A search is process – make sure you feel guided along the process. #nowhiring #lateralhiring #amlaw100 #amlaw #boutiquelawfirm #legalrecruiter #remotework
