I had the wonderful privilege of participating in an apprenticeship programme with HSBC Trade Services. This is a small group session and we get to learn directly from the trade finance experts. I've spent my whole banking career in the sales desk. This is my first time, a super rare opportunity, to sit beside our operations colleagues and learn everything we want to know from them. As it was just a small group of 3 of us, I unabashedly asked a ton of questions. I get to see how SWIFT messages come in. How Letter of Credit (LC) is issued. How LC is vetted. The systems that they use. The things that the LC checkers look at. Super eye opening experience. It's really seeing and experiencing the part of the bank that I hear about, understand conceptually, but never seen it in real life. Typically, RMs like us learn trade finance and improve our knowledge through the cases we encounter and handle. This time, going to trade ops to see the different trade structures of a wide range of customers, truly accelerated my learning and exposure. I get to see and learn about those sophisticated trade instruments that are less common in the Business Banking segment that I'm in. Exploring Personal Loans: Understanding DistributionandRequirements🌟 The past few weeks at Axis Bank 🏦have been an incredible learning experience immersed in the complex world of financial operations and business analytics. Week 1:I began my week by looking into personal finance personal loans and how lenders give them out. I found out something cool: MCA certified companies worth more than 5 lakh and in business for over 5 years can get these loans. This shows that lenders want to see that a company is stable and trustworthy before lending money. To get a loan, you need to know what paperwork to submit. This makes sure everything goes when you apply. It's amazing to see how these loans can help regular people and big companies alike reach their goals. week:2 I analyzed the details of ITR-2, understanding how to record personal details, sources of income and business interests. It is interesting to see how economic literature provides a broader picture of business health. Week3: Expanded my knowledge on FOIR (Fixed Obligation to Income Ratio) and its important role in savings and loan decisions. This insight into credit analysis has been invaluable. Week 4: Working closely under an experience credit officer, I honed my skills in verifying loan documents, verifying residency, and developing detailed client profiles. Each case submitted to a loan officer represents a thorough investigation to ensure financial due diligence. Additionally, I had hands-on experience with timesheets and financial models, gaining practical insight into financial systems that drive efficiency and accuracy. I’m excited to continue absorbing knowledge and contributing meaningfully to the team here. Ask for a peer review from another intern or print out your work and check it before submission. This will show the full-timer’s that you care about delivering the best result, even if that means taking a bit longer on a certain project. Deadlines are critical, but accuracy should always trump speed. 2) Learn Quickly It is likely that you will make a few mistakes along the way, we’re only human. However, bankers will be looking to see whether you are able to acknowledge these in order to avoid making the same error twice. 3) Be Curious The whole point of taking an internship is to learn as much as you can about the job role and all it entails. Ensure you listen and always possess a good attitude. 4) Go Above and Beyond You need to pull out all the stops if you want to differentiate yourself from other interns.
