Planning to get a few projects checked off the to-do list this weekend? If they involve paint or stain - please be sure to follow these simple steps. #DidYouKnow - The oils commonly used in oil-based paints and stains release heat as they dry. If the heat is not released in the air as the rags dry, the heat is trapped, builds up and can cause a fire. 🔥Never leave cleaning rags in a pile. When you’re finished using the rags, take them outside to dry, keeping them well away from the home and other structures. 🔥Hang rags outside or spread them on the ground and weigh them down so that they don’t blow away. 🔥Put dried rags in a metal container, making sure the container is tightly covered. Fill the container with a water and detergent solution, which will break down the oils. 🔥Keep containers of oily rags in a cool place out of direct sunlight and away from other heat sources. Check with your town for information on how to properly dispose of them. #FireTipFriday #nhsfa #firesafetytips #memorialdayweekend

As someone who is constantly worried about frozen pipes in my own house, I wanted to share a message that was sent by our team to clients regarding avoiding frozen pipes: With the extremely cold temperatures across the country over the past few days, we wanted to follow up with the following information. If you are in a cold climate and have not experienced any issues with frozen plumbing, please understand you may still have frozen plumbing lines at this time. Oftentimes, the water leak will not appear until the ice inside the damaged plumbing line melts allowing the water to escape. If you catch this early, and thaw the plumbing correctly, you may avoid a claim. Please review the following tips that were sent out last week and let us know if you have any questions. How to Thaw Frozen Pipes: If you turn on a faucet and only a trickle comes out, suspect a frozen pipe. Likely places for frozen pipes include against exterior walls or where the water service enters your home through the foundation. Keep the faucet open. As you treat the frozen pipe and the frozen area begins to melt, water will begin to flow through the frozen area. Running water through the pipe will help melt ice in the pipe. Apply heat to the section of pipe using an electric heating pad wrapped around the pipe, an electric hair dryer, a portable space heater (kept away from flammable materials), or by wrapping pipes with towels soaked in hot water. Do not use a blowtorch, kerosene or propane heater, charcoal stove, or other open flame device. Apply heat until full water pressure is restored. If you are unable to locate the frozen area, if the frozen area is not accessible, or if you cannot thaw the pipe, call a licensed plumber. Check all other faucets and toilets in the facility to find out if there are additional frozen pipes. If one pipe freezes, others may freeze, too. If you notice a constant musty odor in your crawl space, it's crucial to find and address the root cause. Here are a few things you may want to check. 1. Inspect for signs of water damage, dampness, or visible mold. Look for leaks, water stains, or condensation on surfaces. 2. Musty smells often result from poor ventilation. Open windows, install exhaust fans, or use a dehumidifier to improve air quality. 3. Eliminate mold and mildew by cleaning surfaces with a mixture of white vinegar, water, and baking soda or specialized cleaning products. Discard mold-infested items or porous materials that may retain moisture or odors. 4. If you find water intrusion sources like cracked foundations, leaking pipes, or drainage issues, fix them promptly to prevent mold growth and dampness. 5. Proper insulation can prevent condensation on cold surfaces, while waterproofing ensures water doesn't penetrate basement walls or floors. 6. Keep humidity between 30% and 50% to prevent mold growth. If the problem continues or you suspect hidden mold, contact All Dry Services for an assessment and effective remediation, ensuring a healthier living environment. Let’s talk about a frequently asked question. Is DIY Cedar maintenance possible? Absolutely. Furthermore, the process is relatively straightforward. Cedar maintenance is all about protecting the timber from the elements, most importantly, the harsh New Zealand sun. If you have a long, hot summer, the natural oils in the boards will be sucked out by the sun. Your job is to replace the oil that the sun is extracting. Without oil replenishment, the boards will dry out over time and begin cupping. To learn more about professional VS DIY Cedar maintenance, read the full article on our website. https://lnkd.in/gEyj-vHk

Hope everyone is staying safe during this abnormally brutal cold snap we've been having. Hopefully you haven't had any issues with frozen pipes yet! Temps are going to be in the single digits this weekend so if you haven't had issues consider yourself fortunate. It never hurts to take extra precaution though, wrap and insulate those pipes! ✔️If you do find yourself in a mess this weekend here are some steps you can take to try and help. Turn on the faucet that is affected by the frozen water line. You may get a small amount of water or none depending on how frozen it is. Opening the faucet will relieve the pressure and help reduce the chances of that pipe busting. ✔️Locate the area of the pipe that is frozen. ✔️Gradually apply heat to the area. You can use a hair dryer, warm towels, a space heater, or heat tape. Please don't use an open flame. You run the risk of damaging areas around the pipe and depending on the type of pipe, CPVC/PVC for instance, you could melt your pipes. It will probably take 30 minutes to an hour to thaw so be patient. ✔️Once the pipe has thawed check for leaks. Wipe the pipe off with a dry cloth and check it for any signs of moisture. ✔️If you do find a leak turn off your main water line and call a plumber. If the pipe has been compromised, then it's more susceptible to busting. We are open with limited hours today, so if you need something come and see us! We here at MFMRS are a fan of the clean look… well actually a "clean" roof. All metal roofing gives a clean look, until it gets dirty. So let's talk for a minute about how often and how to clean your metal roof. First the how often: we recommend you clean your roof annually and give ‘er a deep scrub once every 3-5 years. Now the how: water is your friend. If using soap use something gentle like dish, laundry, or car soap. Just mix ¼ cup soap per 1 gallon of water, apply with a non-abrasive applicator, then rinse with water. Not only will your roof look the best on the block, but you will prevent corrosion and extend the lifespan of the roof as well. So get out your yardwork clothes and get to cleaning.

Pressure Washing Tip #003: Absorb Fresh Oil Stains First! When it comes to cleaning up fresh oil spills on concrete, you want to remove as much oil as you can before it seeps down into the pores of the concrete, this is why oil stains last. You will want to absorb as much oil as you can quickly, a cheap solution, with something you might already have around the house, is cat litter! It is a great absorbent and easily disposable once it has been used. You will want to pour it directly onto the oil spill, and if you can, use some shoes you don’t care about to crush the cat litter deeper into the pores of the concrete to absorb any that has already started to fall into the concrete and act as a small barrier from more oil going deeper. Let this sit for a couple of hours and sweep up what you can. This quick step will prep your stain to be pressure washed much easier and now a professional degreaser and pressure washer can be used in tandem to remove the majority of the surface level of oil. This will make your oil stain much lighter and less noticeable! Got questions about how to safely clean your property? We're here to help! 🚧 Friendly Reminder: Sand and Water Barrel Crash Attenuators 🚧 As we navigate through the winter season, a quick check on your impact attenuator barrels can make a significant difference in road safety. 🌨️❄️ 🔍 Inspect Regularly: Moisture in the sand, a common occurrence during rainy winters, and freezing temperatures, can alter the properties of the sand in your crash attenuator barrels. ⚠️ Potential Risks: Both frozen and wet sand behave significantly different from dry sand, posing a risk of more severe damage and injury in the event of a crash. 👷 Use Manufacturer-Recommended Material: Always fill the barrels with the material specified by the manufacturer. Many formulations include additives specifically designed to prevent freezing and ensure optimal performance. Proper installation, regular checks, and maintenance of crash attenuators in a construction site can save lives. 🛣️ #RoadSafety #WinterDriving #SafetyFirst
