At Gustaf inspired by David Hieatt and Mike Coulter we’ve become a little bit obsessed with writing our brand manifesto. Well, in the power of words, full stop. We’ve done courses on it and everything. And one big idea we buy into… Is doing things that no other events agency can do. It really helps us write things that no other events agency can write. Imagine being able to write about DJing the main stage at last week’s #KendalCalling To a crowd of 30,000. Talk about creating goosebump moments! If you’re planning an event – hey, maybe a festival themed get-together for your team – have a word with the folk who can say, and do, things that other event agencies just can’t.
There's nothing like dropping a tune from the main stage of a festival and hearing 30,000 people sing every word back...it's life-affirming. At Gustaf we're well known for putting smiles on faces through corporate events & engagement, but it's great to return to our roots - playing music & DJing. That's exactly what we did this weekend at Kendal Calling. In 2008 my band were given a shot at playing on the new music stage at Kendal. Little did I know that 16 years later I'd be DJing the main stage! Not only that but we also run the VIP area, which involves setting up our stretch tents & theming whilst also programming the entertainment for the space too. It's easily one of our annual highlights. Here's to 2025 🎉

The first half of this year has been incredible for Farrago's live music agency! With our new hire Louis Vellacott taking the helm, we've expanded our reach, partnering with amazing venues like Soho House & Co, Bubba Hospitality Group, and Brixton Jamm. While working with new pubs, we’ve discovered a key trend: many pubs post-pandemic are struggling with razor-thin margins (as low as 0.5%). Despite the potential boost in footfall and bar sales, many pubs hesitate to invest in live music. The challenge? Uncertainty. They worry about drawing enough of the local crowd to justify the cost of the musicians. We think we’ve found a couple solutions to this problem: 1) Free Drinks Promotions: We've partnered with Diageo (thanks to Emma Hamilton and the rest of the team) on free drink promotions at select pubs. This win-win-win strategy boosted pub attendance & sales while giving Diageo valuable exposure to a passionate music audience. 2) Tap into a Wider Music Community: Farrago goes beyond local crowds. We connect pubs with a network of music fans eager to discover new artists: the Farrago community. This expands their customer base significantly. Bulleit x Wolfpack x Farrago Throughout the month of April we ran ‘Sunday Sessions’ at Wolfpack Fulham. By booking a free ticket, customers were entitled to a free Bulleit Cocktail. Getting customers to sample Bulleit encouraged a large number of individuals reordering the cocktail. Here is a snippet of some of the amazing artists and cocktail on show! A huge shout out to Alan Hughes-Hallett and the Farrago team for helping with the music side of things, Grace Pearson for partnering with me on this and Paul for always being on board with new ideas!

Few things to know when planning your kids event it's important that you make good choice of Hiring a pro Dj and Mc in the kiddies entertainment sector; I will like to highlight few reasons you need this. 1.Dj who will Censor music for the Kids 2.Mc who will coordinate and play games with them 3. Never lure people to attend your events out of sympathy or solidarity if they are not suppose to be there in the first place. Do this instead. Design your event on these touch points - must be educational, venue should be aesthetically appealing, serves as an escape from everyday life, and entertaining (group games, food, music etc). Market your event to only those who are supposed to be there. Once they see the value they will come, ceteris paribus. Don’t beg, attract. #eventmanagement #experiencedesign #eventplanners

After Parties and Late Nights are a great event format that can really elevate a venue and connect with different audiences. Howie Schnee shares a ton of insights in this 15-minute interview all about After Parties. Some takeaways: 🥳 Target audiences that like to stay out late (probably not great for family events, but a great new use for a traditionally family-focused spaced. Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium does a great job of this with their Late Nights at the Zoo). 🥳 Make it unique. Events are competitive. You can give yourself an edge by doing something unique. Go deeper for the fans or put a twist on something traditional. 🥳 Create partnerships. If booking talent isn't your strong suite, offer favorable terms to a local, well-connected promoter. 🥳 Support a cause the artist cares about. If you're piggy-backing off a big name performing nearby, consider supporting a cause they care about to improve relations with them and their fans. Howie dives into the details in the video below.
