Wise insights from Hahrie Han 💡 "If democracy is this challenge of people coming together to figure out the kind of shared lives they want to forge, then the behaviors that they use to negotiate difference are going to flow from the commitments they have to each other. So when my husband and I fight, we fight like we want to stay married. We may deeply disagree about things, but we are committed to each other, and so that shapes the way in which we interact with each other. And that should be true in community, too — whether it's one organization or a geographic community or a nation-state or whatever it is. The question of “What commitments are we willing to extend to each other?” is deeply interrelated to this question of “How do we perceive who deserves grace?” Read more in Sam Pressler's #ConnectiveTissue

Ideally, community researchers don't simply talk to people and write reports, like when we talked to AAPI community leaders about how they help people fight anti-Asian hate: https://lnkd.in/gyCk7-T7 Building evidence is of course critical, as is raising awareness. But in this project we were also able to create a toolkit, based on these lessons, that can hopefully directly benefit community members. And that's what it's all about—moving from evidence to practice.
Our new toolkit, created in partnership with Asian Americans Advancing Justice Southern California, is a free, evidence-informed resource to help organizations address racism-related challenges faced by Asian American community members.

A short reflection on the need for personal introspection.
NEWSLETTER - SEPTEMBER 2024: Interrogation Room – A new space for critical reflection Welcome to the Interrogation Room, a new space where we invite anyone to share their reflections on issues of solidarity and social justice. It extends the critical self-reflection of our Solidarity Hubs, and maybe challenges us on our own activism and work. The team will curate it, and we ask that all contributions (max 1,000 words) should be respectful in their challenge, go beyond rhetoric, and genuinely seek to deepen discussions and insights about how we advance solidarity and justice. We kick off with Allan Moolman’s provocation that he shared at the Berlin Solidarity Hub, ‘What were you doing daddy, when the sh*t was going down?': https://lnkd.in/ge9CKaxC

Clinical Neuropsychologist | Commissioner at Victorian Multicultural Commission | Board Director at Victorian Pride Centre
It's National Reconciliation Week, and now more than ever we need to open (or re-open), and nourish connections between First Nations Peoples and multicultural communities. Roads to Reconciliation: Activating Multicultural Communities are exactly one of the innovative and impactful programs that does this
If a photo can share a thousand words, this photo certainly does that when it comes to describing the extensive work carried out across the pilot year of Roads to Reconciliation: Activating Multicultural Communities. “Now more than ever”, our work in twenty local government areas across Victoria has been needed to bring together multicultural community leaders, with local governments, and First Nations leaders… Our first year on the road was wrapped up with a Community Summit brought to you by the National Centre for Reconciliation, Truth, and Justice and delivered in partnership with Reconciliation Victoria and supported by the First Peoples' Assembly of Victoria. Here’s looking forward to getting support for year 2… Photo: Dr Judy Tang - Commissioner, and Community Fellowship recipient, Commissioner & Deputy Chairperson - Yoorrook Justice Commission - Sue-Anne Hunter, and Darebin City Council - Cr. These are among the findings of the just released Sixth Survey of European Jewish Community Leaders and Professionals (https://bit.ly/3A2f0bc) conducted by JDC’s International Center for Community Development. This major survey provides an in-depth look at how the October 7th terror attack impacted shifting attitudes about antisemitism, communal safety, and other issues facing the European Jewish community. Several recent articles explore key findings and you can read them here: eJewish Philanthropy (https://bit.ly/3y9YxkK), JTA (https://bit.ly/4cPp9Xt), Times of Israel (https://bit.ly/4cUxFEs), and Haaretz (https://bit.ly/3Sos5lB).
