Driving in Wet Weather With yellow weather warnings and thunderstorms forecasted across Gloucestershire, Bristol, and other parts of the country, here are some top tips to help you stay safe on the road: Avoid unnecessary travel where possible – If you must venture out, check your car equipment before you go. This includes wipers, headlights, fog lights, brake lights, tyre tread, and brakes. Plan your route – Avoid low-lying areas, and stay updated on road closures. Remember, potholes and uneven surfaces may be hidden by water. Drive slowly – Stopping distances are much longer in wet weather. Leave at least twice the space between you and the vehicle ahead. Keep your lights on – Visibility is often reduced during storms, so use your headlights. If needed, turn on your fog lights, but remember to switch them off when visibility improves. If you encounter flood water and feel you have no other option – Proceed slowly with high revs and keep moving. Avoid moving water or depths over 10cm. Always test your brakes as soon as possible afterwards. Stay safe out there! 🌧️🚗
