Clients often ask how many cameras are needed for their project. My response is straightforward - let's start with two and walk through the creative to confirm. Having a minimum of two cameras not only allows for an exponentially larger number and style of shots to be captured but also reduces the time needed to complete the shot list. The final number of cameras and accessories will always depend on the creative vision. Using only one camera severely limits the scope of what can be captured. Amidst the chaos of announcements in the run up to Cinegear LA, this little bit of news got a little lost in the storm. However if we were to just think about it for a minute, it gets incredibly significant. 1. LogC3 is now on a camera that is priced around USD$2400 (inclusive of the license) which means shooting LogC3 is now made incredibly inclusive to all filmmakers regardless of their budget. 2. 14 years of LogC3 history means there is a massive catalogue of LUTs built that has just been unlocked for the consumer. Assuming there is a show LUT for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga which was shot on LogC3 as it was the ALEXA65 and I can get my hands on it...... 3. Imagine this feature going forwards with newer cameras with improved dynamic range.... 4. While the Mini is small, it is not GH7 small level of small. Productions utilizing Minis now have an awesome "D-Cam" for snorricams, crash-cams, helmet cams the list goes on. Location scout to test Show LUTs, specialist shots requiring ultra telephoto reach (Signature Zoom 65-300 + 1.7x Extender + 2x crop factor for a 1000mm FOV anyone?) are just some of the ideas that are coming off the top of my head that this little beast should be able to handle.
