Many traditional nonprofits provide one solution for the families they serve. At New Story, we believe every family deserves the opportunity to choose the housing they need and want at a price they can afford. That's why we start with land because we want families to take ownership of their lives from the ground up. https://lnkd.in/e4HjX36x

Commerical Real Estate has changed my life! But I’m not going to lie, when we first started out in residential real estate, I did this for financial freedom. - Not having to worry about bills - Having the freedom to choose -Being able to do what, when I want And in truth, my plan was just to never to ask anyone for help or eat cup of noodles 😂 But although that’s how I started my journey, it’s not exactly how it looks today. 7 years ago I didn’t have a penny to my name, and those first few dollars meant everything to me when I made a transaction. Today, my mission is to improve 1,000,000 lives. - Create housing people are proud to live in. - Build communities that raise educated children. - Allow people to be comfortable and safe in their homes. It may sound far fetched (or even a little unrealistic) but it really is the thing that gets me out of bed in the morning. And I’m proud to say that today we’ve donated over $5,000,000 to social impact projects. So, yes… I may have got into the game to avoid eating cup of noodles. But I’m staying in it for the impact we can make! Ask 1: SHOP . SHOP stands for "Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program." . The first ask is seeking to obtain funds that go to eligible national and regional non-profit organizations (like Habitat for Humanity) as well as alliances/coalitions. SHOP allows these entities to purchase home sites and develop or enhance the framework needed to set the stage for sweat equity and volunteer-based homeownership programs for those who are low or limited income. . The funding for this program assists lenders who work with low- and limited-income households to make homeownership a reality. Providing affordable homeownership opportunities promotes prosperity, which in turn creates thriving communities and improves the quality of life in these areas. . THE ASK: SHOP to be funded at $20M in FY25 (important fact: this level of funding is actually a stark decrease from 10-12 years ago when SHOP was funded at $27M). . #HOTH2024 #Habitatonthehill #equity #advocacy #educate #learn #habitatforhumanity #affordablehousing #policy #build #newheights #together #community

With the help of United Way's Community Impact Grant, Side by Side was able to do wonderous things in Walworth County for families in need. What is Side by Side? Many people are struggling to make ends meet in our community. Whether it’s sickness, an accident, job loss, or another misfortune, your neighbors are faced with times when they can’t afford everyday living expenses. In fact, • More than 1,000 of every 7,000 households in Greater Lake Geneva earn less than $20,000 annually. • Nearly half (46 percent) of Lake Geneva grade school students qualify for reduced or free lunch. Fortunately, caring neighbors are all around to help volunteer and donate to make our mission a reality at Side by Side. We’re able to help with the short-term assistance people need to help overcome life’s challenges. Side by Side provides financial help to pay for rent/mortgage, utilities bills, or prescription costs. We also provide referrals to other community resources where people can get help. https://lnkd.in/gd2XBTcF #unitedway #walworthcountywi #communityimpact

There is a terrific article in this month’s issue of South Sound Business on homeownership. It highlights the challenges people have in our region obtaining a home they can own. The reporter interviews two local leaders in the attainable homeownership world, Sue Elkin from Homeownership Center Northwest and Maureen Fife from Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity. We need our governmental agencies to fund organizations like these two, so they can help provide long-term stable housing for our low-income neighbors. If your company has funds to donate, please consider these two incredibly impactful organizations. A home is more than a place to live. For many of us it is our largest investment and the best chance for long-term financial security. For some people, like me, my home’s equity was a financial tool I could leverage to open my business, add an accessory dwelling unit in my daylight basement, and make a down payment on a commercial building. Without my home I’d probably still be working for someone else. Let’s work together to ensure that our local non-profits have the resources they need to lift up others so they can obtain their own long-term financial security.

Residential Realtor® in Marin + San Francisco helping clients of all ages and socio-economic levels buy and sell properties with care, compassion, patience, and professionalism
1% for the 99% Initiative At Marks Realty Group, we recognize that the top 1% of the wealthiest people in our country have a disproportionate share of capital, political influence, and the means of living a life of privilege and comfort, education, and health. As a result of this wealth inequality and in line with our ethos on beneficence, we established our 1% for the 99% Initiative which annually gives 1% of our total commission to nonprofits committed to making a difference in their local communities, with particular attention paid to social justice and environmental issues. We have selected the following three organizations as the recipients for 2024 of the 1% for the 99% Initiative: • Two Valleys Community Land Trust • Welcome Home Project • Canal Alliance If you would like to support such an initiative, let’s work together! jonathan@marksrealtygroup.com 415.307.0505 DRE#01447489 #WealthInequality #SocialImpact #CommunitySupport #1PercentForThe99Percent #MarksRealtyGroup #Beneficence #GiveBack #Nonprofit #SocialJustice #EnvironmentalIssues #SupportLocalCommunities #RealEstate #MakeADifference https://lnkd.in/g8ka_4B4

Radical intervention, intuitive results. In a market society where we put a price tag on nearly everything we need to survive, people without a lot of money who get a lump sum with no strings attached spend that money on things they need. This initiative underscores the need for more investment in universal basic income. I’d also love to see health outcomes measured but I imagine those results are lagging indicators. “The proportion of those who reported being unsheltered in the past month went from 30% at the beginning of the study to just 12% after six months. That far outpaced the control group, which went from 28% to 25%. People who received the money also reported that they were closer to being able to afford all of their basic needs compared with people who did not receive the funds. More than a third of the money was spent on food, according to self-reported budgets given to researchers. Housing accounted for about 20% of the spending, followed by transportation at 13%, clothing at 12% and health care at 6%. About 14% was categorized as “other,” a category that included the 2% of funds that were spent on alcohol, drugs and cigarettes.”
This article makes my day. To Kevin Adler, the founder of Miracle Messages, the San Francisco nonprofit that helped distribute the funds, the findings were not surprising. "People used the money better than we could have used it for them,” he said. “When we trust people, they can resolve their issues. They know what they need.” https://lnkd.in/gEyug33f

If nonprofits want to meaningfully impact the communities they serve, they must be at least doing the bare minimum for the community that makes up the organization itself: its workers. When the core of an organization lives in poverty, those economic factors don't just hurt individuals, they put up real obstacles to community progress. If we want to make a change, we need to start by getting more comprehensive and accurate data about financial insecurity in the nonprofit workforce. #Nonprofit #Justice #Finance #Equity
