Housing is a key element of economic development for local governments.

We are looking to invest in land with strategies that create a compelling compounding return while bringing value to key issues we see ailing our society. Loss of Connection: There is a growing disconnect from land, traditions, family, and community. We want to invest in land in a way that connects stakeholders “back to the land”. Rural America: Vibrancy in rural America is diminishing. Our rural communities are getting hallowed out and few are looking out for the people and towns this is affecting. We want to invest in land in a way that brings investment back to the backbone of our country. Values Driven Community: Exclusive clubs exist, but there are few that explicitly embody and champion values that lead to human flourishing. We want to invest in land in a way that connects and strengthens community of like hearted people who want seek to be spurred on in values of service, formation, humility, and gratitude.

A transferable idea? Some of the biggest barriers to meaningful change at scale in brownfield areas are aggregated land holdings and captive capital. Should we be providing better incentives for iwi-lead development here in Aotearoa? “According to the provincial government, its rationale for the move is because the upcoming projects by the First Nations — neighbourhood-sized, high-density redevelopments that will be some of Vancouver’s largest upcoming projects — will generate significant housing. “Local First Nations have the potential to be a significant supplier of housing. This amendment is intended to reduce costs for First Nations and create opportunities for development, including new social housing,” reads a bulletin by the BC Ministry of Municipal Affairs today”
