Young investors are carving out niches in specific industries that they have a passion for, e.g. women's health, the care economy, and enterprise climate solutions. They have a love-hate relationship with artificial intelligence and are looking for ways to make this revolution more grounded in reality. -Dominic-Madori Davis, TechCrunch #investingtrends #entrepreneurship https://lnkd.in/gNEa8S77

Same as it ever was? You read, hear, and talk a lot about how under-represented women are in Tech + VC + Entrepreneurship True then. True now. But getting better 1% better every day. What if we could accomplish that? The disparity gap will see compounded deficit and the parity will achieve compounded ROI (look it up - women are good for business and your investment). Here we are at the Duke Angel Network (now Duke Capital Partners) cocktails + conversation with John Glushik + Duke alums on the roof of Dream Hotel Group Miami Beach celebrating start ups, innovation, tech, angel investing and paying it forward Actually, in this photo, even though we’re only 4 women, we represent 25% of the whole. Better than average in 2024? Challenge your next tech / VC / entrepreneurship And gathering / panel / conference to get at minimum, 1% better with every single iteration. Surely, you can hit 1%! *** Partnership between eMerge Americas + Duke University founded by Giraldo Gutierrez + me in 2015 Torch carried forward brilliantly in 2018 by the formidable but ever-approachable with a warm smile (and accomplished home-chef, but how would I know, I’ve only seen the pictures) Max Skalatsky who created and sponsored an excellent, intimate cocktail, dinner, and educational program among innovative minds Photo credit: Julian Vidal #womenintech #womeninbusiness #innovation #entrepreneurship #vc #wib #hypewomen #1percentbettereachday

Investing in Emerging Technology | Head of Global Startup & VC Community | CrossFit Level 1| USAW Level 2
Currently a partner at Y Combinator, leading their efforts in biotech and healthcare, Surbhi Sarna is an award-winning entrepreneur, recognized globally for her commitment to innovation in women's healthcare, and now an author of her first-ever book, " Without a Doubt ! " . Surbhi's story, from entrepreneur - to - innovator - to - investor, is a testament to the fact that adversity, especially that which comes from within, is just a stepping stone towards greatness 🙌. Few of my favorite takeaways from the interview: 💡 “Success in the form of money is the last thing that's guaranteed. And it's a lot of years of your life (dedicated). What keeps you going when things are really hard certainly isn't the kind of money that you're imagining will be at the other end of things. It's the joy of talking to your customers and knowing that you're solving a true problem for them.” 💡 “You have to really protect your time. Otherwise, work eats into absolutely everything. Because there's no limit or end to the work that you could be doing in a day as a founder. Think limitless.” 💡 “The big thing to remember is to keep going when you hear 'no,' because all it takes is one 'yes.' ” 💡“I think I was turned down more than 50 times, because after 50 times, you lose count, so like, somewhere in that magnitude, it was just like rejection after rejection.” 💡“One of the most important decisions I made while I was running the company was to keep going in the face of a lot of doubt.” 💡“The most important thing to remember when you're fundraising is that you shouldn't be relying on investors to validate your idea.” 💡“I've invested in 22 women's health companies in two years. And I make it a personal mission to make sure that they're successful.” - 👉 Complete Interview link in comments. - In the end, and despite listening to and watching multiple past interviews, articles, and posts about Surbhi's work, I was still very much blown away as she shared her experience & insights on turning her teenage cancer scare into a company that was acquired for $275 million.~ Would love to hear your thoughts !

Some of this appeared in our most recent newsletter, but we wanted to share with a larger audience, since we've had such a great year. Thank you so everyone who has supported our journey along the way - there are too many to mention. 🙏 🙏 Last year at this time, Breakthrough Labs was just a plan. In December 2022, we were promoting applications for our first-ever accelerator while still assembling what would become an amazing group of experts to provide our workshops for female founders. As I look back on 2023, I can't believe that only 12 months have passed. Here are some of the highlights from our year full of firsts: ⭐ 10 fantastic female-founded start-ups participated in our 4-month accelerator programme preparing them to pitch for pre-seed investment. Our pitch event was held at UCL's Base KX and included investors from Angel Academe - increasing female investment, Octopus Ventures, South East Angels, Oxford Innovation Finance, Queen's Park Equity and UBS ⭐ On top of this, we ran several free, online events for female founders, most notably our Entrepreneur Q&A sessions with successful #womenentrepreneurs. ⭐ We were one of the organising partners of the UK regional She Loves Tech finals, promoting women in tech. We're working on another event for #femalefounders and #investors with the Institute of Directors (IoD) Glass Ceiling group and NatWest. Mark your calendars for 25 March and stay tuned for more info! ⭐ We opened the waiting list for our online community for female founders. ⭐ We have over 500 followers in this LinkedIn group over 200 subscribers to our newsletter. And we can't wait to tell you what we have planned for 2024! If there's someone you know who would benefit from hearing from us, tell them to subscribe to our newsletter by visiting our website at the link in the graphic. Or suggest that they follow us here!
