I had the privilege of attending an insightful presentation by Gastone Boisco, Head of Urban Planning for Sorengo and Green Office Liaison, where he shared the innovative sustainability projects shaping the future of our community. The event highlighted Sorengo's unwavering commitment to green urban development, and I was inspired by their forward-thinking initiatives, including: 🌳 Green Space Expansion: The addition of apple tree parks and efforts to introduce more greenery not only beautify the area but also combat urban heat through strategic vegetation placement. 🏗️ Historic Preservation: A recent building restoration project demonstrated the balance between innovation and heritage conservation. 📜 Certified Sustainability: With recertification in 2023, Sorengo continues to meet stringent environmental standards. 🚶♀️ Promoting Active Lifestyles: The new Piano Comunale Percorsi Pedonali encourages walking, reducing vehicular reliance while fostering community connectivity. 🌱 Tree Health Management: Proactive efforts to remove unwell trees and replace them with thriving vegetation showcase a commitment to maintaining a healthy ecosystem. One of the standout discussions was the study of hotspot islands—areas where urban surfaces absorb and retain heat—and how Sorengo is combating this issue by creating cooler, greener spaces. What struck me most was Sorengo’s clear political vision for a sustainable future, backed by actionable steps and a community-centered approach. These efforts are paving the way for a greener earth while inspiring collaboration and innovation. This event further strengthened my belief in the power of sustainability and the role urban planning plays in shaping the world we live in. A big thank you to Gastone Boisco and the team behind this inspiring event! I’m looking forward to seeing these projects come to life and continuing to support sustainable initiatives in Sorengo and beyond.
