Caring for our most vulnerable children is perhaps the most crucial role of local authorities. Yet, they face a myriad of challenges in children's residential care, including rising demand, lack of supply in the right places, and a market reliant on debt-financed business models driven by scale. These factors are leading to poor outcomes for children. In our latest #PrioritisingPublicServices series blog, Scott Darraugh, Chief Executive of Social adVentures, and Ross Murray argue that provider models rooted in local communities and cooperative solutions, such as the innovative Fair Care Alliance in Greater Manchester, can become the blueprint for tackling the crisis in children's residential care. Scott and Ross tackle the pressing questions: ➡ What are the critical issues facing children's residential care today? ➡ What actionable steps can be taken to address these challenges? ➡Where do we stand in the journey towards transformation in children's residential care? Discover how we can move towards a more sustainable and effective solution for our most vulnerable children in the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eCsaGDMd Interested in learning more about the potential of cooperative principles in reforming children's residential care? Founder/Director of Care Campaign for the Vulnerable💜💚(CCFTV)26,500+not for profit, national, safety in care #CareProviders #KeyNoteSpeaker #AmbassadorBRACE #CHPPowerList2023 #LeadingWomenInCare2024 #EllensMemory☘️
For over a decade, Care Campaign for the Vulnerable has been supporting families facing the challenge of having to move their elderly loved one when notice is served. Throughout this period, it’s important to understand the difference between ‘fair’ and ‘unfair’ evictions. During meetings to discuss care needs, it is evident that families often experience significant anxiety when confronted with the prospect of their loved one being forced to leave their home. My role includes reassuring families, explaining that if a care home genuinely cannot meet the specific needs of a resident, it is appropriate to secure a more suitable alternative placement. It is imperative that care homes offer robust support to families during this transition, ensuring that sufficient time extensions are granted if a suitable care home is not immediately available. When care homes collaborate with families in this manner, it is clear that all parties are working in the best interest of the resident. Today, I was particularly heartened to receive feedback from a family CCFTV supported through this process. The care provider demonstrated considerable effort in assisting the family and their loved one, ensuring a smooth transition. It is gratifying to learn that the resident is now thriving in a new home. This positive outcome underscores the importance of care homes working diligently and compassionately to find the best possible solutions for residents who are served notice. #Support #Eviction #Families #CareCampaignForTheVulnerable
