https://lnkd.in/eH658bUS 📢 I am happy to share that our latest paper, "Development of a New Modeling Framework to Describe Sterile Filtration of mRNA-Lipid Nanoparticles," has been published in the Journal of Membrane Science! This study presents the #first quantitative analysis of the #fouling behavior during #sterile #filtration of #mRNA-LNPs under both constant TMP and constant flux operations. 1️⃣ The flux decline data during #constant #TMP #filtration were effectively described using the #classical complete pore blockage #model, with a notable decrease in the rate of pore blockage as TMP increased. 2️⃣ The fouling behavior during #constant #flux #filtration, which is more complex, led us to develop a new modified version of the complete pore blockage model. This model incorporates #both the instantaneous #TMP and the #TMP #gradient (dP/dv), making it the #first to explicitly include the TMP gradient in the fundamental expression for the rate of fouling. The new fouling model features three fitted parameters: Parameters a and b describe the rate of pore blockage dependence on TMP, evaluated from constant TMP experiments. Parameter c1 describes the dependence on the TMP gradient, derived from constant flux experiments. This model's versatility is evidenced by its applicability across a 20-fold range of TMP and a 30-fold range of filtrate flux, underscoring its broad utility in various operating conditions.
