I am both a former First Responder AND a Veteran. So what I am about to say comes from the heart: 1. I LOVE that there is an organization (the VA) which provides for the health of our nation's Veterans (we can discuss efficacy and ease of use at a different time). 2. I really wish there was an organization that provided for the health of our nation's First Responders (Police, Fire, EMS, Dispatch, Medical) at scale as well. We absolutely should keep supporting our Veterans. But we should also look at how we can better support our First Responders. PTSD and Trauma are talked about, at scale, for Veterans. I would argue that there is just as much, if not more, PTSD and Trauma in our nation's First Responders. I started a non-profit to help First Responders and Veterans who are facing financial hardships called Second Responder Inc. Even if you work in a busy emergency department, you might be surprised how few staff are properly trained on how to apply a commercial tourniquet correctly. This generally falls into the category of "everyone knows how," and therefore almost no one knows how to do it. I just wanted to share an update I came across on the Airborne Hazards and Open Burn Pit Registry (AHOBPR). It is now much easier for those who were exposed to burn pits or other health hazards during their service to be added to the AHOBPR. "On August 1, 2024, the VA announced critical updates to the Airborne Hazards and Open Burn Pit Registry: the broadening of participation criteria, clear opt-out procedures, and automatic inclusion procedures based on DOD records that vastly expand the number of participating Veterans and service members." - Veterans Affairs You can go through the process at the link below: https://lnkd.in/eZ_3b9vZ Additionally, the article below lists burn pit locations recognized by the DoD and provides information on the presumptive conditions they may cause: https://lnkd.in/egVs6ph6

Thank you to Fox News TV for having us on the show to discuss the PACT ACT expansion of care. This is a great benefit but we have a long way to go. We need a toxic exposures specialized healthcare pathway for those presenting with deployment related respiratory disease and other illnesses. We need it to be similar to the World Trade Center health care program. We need more than a pact act screening questionnaire. Beginning March 5, 2024, VA is making all Veterans exposed to toxins while serving our country are eligible to enroll directly in VA health care without first applying for VA benefits. This expansion of care means that all Veterans who served in the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, Iraq,Afghanistan, the Global War on Terror, or any other combat zone after 9/11 will be eligible to enroll directly in VA health care without first applying for VA benefits. Additionally, Veterans who never deployed but were exposed to toxins or hazards while training or on active duty in the United States will also be eligible to enroll. #pactact #burnpits #burnpits360 #cancers #lunghealth #4d
