Today we visited North Somerset Council to meet with their SEND Officers to discuss supported employment pathways, with a specific focus around supported internships. We shared the NOS for supported employment, our vision for working in collaboration with North Somerset around the #internshipswork project and discussed how collectively we can support in fostering strong working relationships between parents, young people, education, health and social care, employment services, schools, colleges and training providers. We also discussed how we can better support planning for employment outcomes within YR9 and YR11 reviews through supported employment based outcomes, alongside considering what provision may need to be outlined within EHCPs to ensure that learners receive the correct support when accessing the workplace. We are hoping that this will support our shared vision around the value of employment for young people with SEND alongside raising aspirations to bridge the employment gap. #supportedemployment #partnership #preparingforadulthood #supportedinternships North Somerset Council Amy Harding Lynsey McKinstry Nicola Lace

On-campus employment at colleges is promoted to help students financially and build professional skills. A 2024 survey revealed that 63% of students pursue co-op programs, internships, or work-study jobs to manage education costs. These jobs offer flexible schedules and often align with students' majors, enhancing career readiness. Colleges are advised to make job opportunities easily accessible, host job fairs, and integrate skill development into student employment to improve student engagement and post-graduate success. https://bit.ly/4cMoVAv

I learned that when it comes to interviews, the "elevator pitch" is a great way to summarize who you are and what you are looking for. I look forward to using this strategy in the future.
