Accountability is often framed as something individual: "Hold yourself accountable for your pipeline." "Are you having positive follow up dicipline". But true accountability isn't a solo act. It's a full-contact team sport, one that involves every member of the organization, from sales reps to leadership, working in sync for the benefit of our clients. As sales professionals, we can't thrive in silos. It's not enough for a sales rep to follow up diligently if marketing isn’t delivering the right leads, or if operations can't fulfill promises made. Likewise, if leadership isn’t providing clear direction and resources, the entire system falters. When accountability is cherished and celebrated as a culture, we can see some incredible benefits across the board: We trust each other more. Everyone knows their role and follows through. We serve our clients better. Seamless collaboration ensures their needs are met without friction. We grow together. Wins feel bigger when they're shared, and challenges feel smaller when tackled as a team. Personal Story: I almost had a stroke after a sales meeting. Yep...to the VP of Sales I will not name. I was at a sales QBR getting feedback on the product, what was impacting sales, and how to more effectively build and position the right product. The SVP of sales did NOT want product management there. Throughout the entire meeting, each time I wanted to contribute....I was told "I don't care what product thinks?" I started to immediately shrink, watch my words...and eventually just sat there. Here's the problem....I started to feel tired and a bit woozy after the meeting. I went to urgent care and had blood pressure that was at the level where I could have had a stroke. This is one of the many warning signs I had in my career that I needed to learn how to navigate these 'challenging-leaders', effectively communicate, and play the 'chess game' when collaborating with senior leadership. As part of my journey to leadership....I was adamant to be the leader others wanted to work for...and treat people well. When I learned the RIGHT tools....great things happened. Promotions. Seats on Board. Public Speaking. I challenge you to be the leader who uplifts people. Who inspires people to want to do their best work. We need to change the way we lead. ✨What do you look for when building your senior leadership team? 🤔 I’ve spent the last three months on garden leave reflecting on this very question… and the last week or so asking my insurance network for their perspectives! (After 16 years in the industry, I thought I knew the answer — turns out, it’s quite simple) Here’s what I’ve learned - when COOs, CIOs, and other senior leaders hire their direct leadership teams, they prioritize three key things: ✅ Expert guidance. They want someone with deep market knowledge, a strong network, and the ability to advise on securing the best people. ✅ Efficiency. They don’t need it to be “fast,” but they also don’t want the process dragging on for 2–3 months. ✅ Fair fees. The traditional executive search model of 30%+ fees, including charging on bonuses, benefits, etc — is outdated and excessive. This shouldn’t be so hard to achieve, right?
