As we approach Jan 26th this year, we are offering our team the chance to Change The Date and decide when they want to celebrate the Australia Day public holiday. We want to celebrate our nation and all the diverse communities that make Australia what it is, but we just don't think January 26th is the right day to do it. We stand in complete support with the traditional owners of this land, and to celebrate today is to ignore the enduring consequences of the First Fleet arriving in 1788. It’s a small gesture - but one that is continuing to grow in popularity with businesses nationwide. This, paired with increased public pressure, we hope will one day result in an official date change. Until then, we’ve rounded up some ways you can spend January 26th with Indigenous and First Nations people; rallying, practising culture, learning history and/or celebrating music, art, food and education. https://lnkd.in/gzKq_Vtd #KearneyGroup #AlwaysWasAlwaysWillBe #changethedateofaustraliaday #australia #australiaday

Deo Kato aims to be the first person to run from Cape Town to London, telling the history of human migration from Africa to the rest of the world. His journey will cover 2 continents, 15 Countries, 14,570km (9,053 miles), and 381 Days. His plan is to create a documentary film from his Cape Town to London journey, which he will distribute to major film festivals and production companies. The many reasons for documenting this journey are to show a different side of Africa that we don't see in the mainstream media. African and Black history is the most extended history in the world, so it's essential to show history beyond slavery and colonisation. The history of Human Migration will highlight how the earliest humans that walked on this world migrated and navigated to the rest of the world. Through this journey, he wants to inspire the next generation of young people showing them that nothing is impossible when you persist and apply consistency to your goals: - To highlight where humanity first walked on Earth. - To be the first person in history to run from Cape Town to London - To be the first African-born Black person to run the length of Africa and Europe. Your support will help him to put together the best team of people and acquire the necessary equipment that will help to complete this journey successfully: - Purchase a vehicle, fuel, vehicle tax and transportation between Africa and Europe. - Cover for visas, vaccinations, and any necessary accommodation (for example, in some countries, a hotel stay is recommended). - Pay for guides to support my team and me across tricky areas like National Parks and buy food & water. - Purchase other equipment like a camping tent, sleeping bags and cooking equipment. #RunningForJustice #DeoKato Deo K. https://lnkd.in/gwCqvA23

Are you excited about the 2024 Olympics in Paris? A recent Viavoice poll suggests that only 37% of French people are eagerly anticipating the event. But why the lack of enthusiasm? 🤔 Let's delve deeper into the issues: Lack of Public Consultation: Unlike other cities, Paris didn't hold referendums or consultations before accepting the bid. This absence of citizen involvement raises questions about democratic decision-making. ☝️ Rising Costs: Ticket prices, accommodation, and transport costs have skyrocketed, making it challenging for many to participate in the events. 💸 Criticism of Capitalist Interests: Some argue that the Olympics prioritize profit over community welfare, with private sponsors covering a significant portion of the budget. 💰 Find more on this recent piece by Voxeurop https://lnkd.in/eQMnWxX5

As Australians gear up to celebrate #Australiaday this week, let's take a moment to delve into its rich history and the vibrant traditions that make it special. Australia Day, observed on January 26th, commemorates the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788, marking the beginning of European settlements. It's a day of national pride, celebrated with barbecues, public gatherings in parks, and festivities on beautiful beaches just before returning to work and school at the end of the Summer holidays. However, it's crucial to acknowledge the complexities surrounding this day. It's important to recognize that Australia Day is a source of controversy, as it coincides with a painful chapter in the history of Indigenous peoples. This date represents dispossession, suffering, and loss for the Aboriginal communities who have called this land home for thousands of years. Luckily, young Australians nowadays are encouraged to approach Australia Day with a commitment to ‘reconciliation’ and to understanding the diverse perspectives that shape their national identity. #AustraliaDay #ReflectAndCelebrate #UnityInDiversity #celebrationsaroundtheworld #australiaday
