Abubakar works in four different public health clinics, where he spends his days participating in health talks, assisting with house-to-house outreach, enrolling infants after verifying eligibility, disbursing cash incentives, and reminding caregivers about return visits for additional vaccinations.

What We Do, Part 1! We're celebrating New Incentives staff in northern Nigeria in the next two weeks by featuring blog posts about different aspects of their work. First up is a blog about a crucial contribution of our program that often flies under the radar: how our supply-side team collaborates with government partners to help ensure that vaccines are available at the clinics when infants arrive.

Meet Humaira and Abdulrahman and their mothers, Khadija and Rahama! Perhaps you've noticed that we feature a lot of photos of babies and their mothers? That's because our work to promote life-saving vaccines is caregiver-centered, and it's because—to quote our program's official name in Nigeria—"All Babies Are Equal!"

What does it mean to be a good communicator? When Shuaibu Abubakar nominated Assistant Field Manager Isah Bello for our Staff Spotlight, he praised his ability to persuade caregivers to protect their babies by getting them vaccinated. According to Isah, it all comes down to being polite, appreciative, friendly, and observant.

Increasing vaccine coverage is more than a game of peekaboo! Routine Immunization Provider Alhassan says NI-ABAE is significantly reducing the number of defaulters in the vaccination program at the clinic where he works. Naja'atu, who has fully vaccinated all three of her children, including Umar, is impressed by the way that our ₦1,000 (less than USD $1) cash incentives encourage so many women in the village to bring their children for vaccination.
