We are excited to announce our selection as participants in Newlab’s U.S Department of Energy funded program in Louisiana, focused on commercialising innovative carbon management and clean hydrogen technologies. Newlab, in conjunction with Greater New Orleans, Inc. – GNO, Inc., Shell, Carbonvert, Battelle and Louisiana State University, are aligning local and industrial stakeholders. Our goal: develop and deploy our first demonstration project in Louisiana. We expect the strategic partnerships to provide economic benefits to Louisiana while tapping into the region’s incredible expertise in industrial operations. These factors will ensure we grow our operations safely and efficiently. As we commercialise our process, we also begin the important work of decoupling Louisiana’s economy from the highly polluting industries of the past. According to Newlab, "Louisiana’s rich energy legacy, combined with its strategic infrastructure and workforce, makes it the perfect place for transformative energy initiatives." We are joined on this exciting journey by eight other innovative startups:  Airhive, arculus, Banyu Carbon, Encore CO², Mantel, Molten Industries,  RepAir Carbon Capture, and Vaulted Deep. From my vantage point of working with climate tech founders and investors daily, the new federal budget for the climate and energy sector has delivered a number of great wins for the renewables sector .. but the question remains if that will effectively reach the innovators facing multiple valleys of death in the startup world given access to capital remains constrained. 📍 It provides long-term tax credits for renewable hydrogen production and critical minerals processing. These incentives provide the kind of sustained, policy-backed market signals that nascent clean-tech industries desperately need to secure investment, scale up, and become globally competitive. 📍 I was also delighted to see the substantial $3.2 billion committed over 7 years for ARENA to drive clean energy and manufacturing innovation. 📍 The $91M for clean energy training and the $399M for the Net Zero Economy Authority are great enablers alongside the technology and production incentives. 📍While this focus on renewable energy is much wanted and needed, we still have a way to go to ensure the region's brightest climate tech innovators can access the support they need to lead the world in forging solutions. ✅ The race is on to reimagine energy, manufacturing, transportation, agriculture and so much more. ♻️ #ClimateTech #CleanEnergy #FederalBudget2024

There was a lot of big news in climate tech this week, from Voyager Ventures announcing its second $100 million raise to HSBC and Google Cloud's new partnership. If you're pressed for time, here are 5 things our team at Latitude Media put out this week that I recommend checking out: In an exclusive from Maeve Allsup, PPA provider SOLRITE Energy and its partner, battery and VPP company sonnen, Inc., announced earlier this week a new financing model for solar plus storage solutions, which they're dubbing “virtual power plant power purchase agreements,” or VPAs. Under this new model, Solrite can provide grid services using sonnen's batteries and thus subsidize operating costs. In another piece from Maeve Allsup, an inside look into Pacific Gas and Electric Company's first-of-a-kind virtual power plant pilot last summer with solar services provider Sunrun and the learnings that emerged from it -- including both positive customer response and lower-than-expected output. From Katie Brigham, an analysis on the recent surge of funding for domestic electrolyzer startups including Verdagy, Ohmium and Electric Hydrogen, catalyzed by the release of the long-anticipated 45V guidelines. Katie talks to the three startups about their respective approaches and asks, will all this funding prompt a demand for green hydrogen?
