Great article for any school planning to engage with esports. At West Buckland School, co-ed day and boarding school for 3-18 year olds in North Devon we have started with a grass-roots ECA program that will lead into a BTEC program that focuses on the business model, the coding, the marketing and the nature of the sport. When you see the contribution this sector makes to the U.K. economy, never mind elsewhere, we really need to provide young people with the know-how to contribute and influence how this journey goes…

High School Esports belong at the school! Esports is a spectator sport. Student and family members will jump at their opportunity to support their friends/loved ones during high school esports competition. However, the true essence of in-person competition extends beyond mere support—it's about creating an environment where every participant has an equal chance. Not all students have the means to afford high-end gaming gear or the space to create a dedicated gaming setup at home. This lack of accessibility can inadvertently create disparities, where some individuals may not have the same opportunities for skill development and participation as their better-equipped counterparts. In-person competitions, within the structured setting of a school, level the playing field, ensuring that talent, dedication, and strategy take precedence over disparities in personal resources. The exchange of triumphant high-fives, the shared tension, and the mutual respect between competitors are elements that transcend the screen and speak volumes about the true spirit of sportsmanship found in these live events. While sending students home for competition may seem convenient, it risks dampening your students' engagement and passion for competitive gaming. The heart of esports truly thrives within the school environment! Email us at esports@efs-llc.com to learn more! #esportsedu #k12education #EdTech #esports #stem #studentengagement
