Men Don't Talk About Sex? Or are they just not given supportive spaces to talk in? Spaces with a positive vision of male sexuality and informed about masculinities and their impact on men's sex lives. So few clinicians have training in masculinities, male sexuality and the impact of masculine norms on men's sex lives. Is it a surprise that so many men have difficulty finding spaces to talk safely in? If you're a clinician, have you ever had training on masculinities and working with men? #menshealth #sexualhealth #mensmentalhealth #sexualpleasure #mensexualhealth #sexdoctor #trt #testosterone #sexualmedicine #sextherapy #sexologist #spacesformen #erectiledysfunction

In 2022 the federal government made a public commitment to update protections for people with innate variations of sex characteristics in the Sex Discrimination Act, from protections on grounds of 'intersex status' to protections on grounds of 'sex characteristics'. This commitment was made by Minister Tony Burke in debate on the Secure Jobs Bill. Introduction of legislation combatting hate speech may provide the last opportunity to fulfil this commitment in this Parliament? tagging Alastair Lawrie https://lnkd.in/gGpV3hAY

🌈 ☂ On the occasion of International Sex Worker Pride Day, we would like to share documents from 70+ organisations in the new CMI! Tool that underscores the need for rights-based legal approaches to sex work. 👉 The decriminalisation of sex work, as informed by the experiences and voices of sex workers themselves, is the first step in eradicating violence against those in the sex work sector. 📣 A human rights-based approach to sex work ensures that sex workers in all diversity have access to crucial social and legal services, remain protected from abuse and violence, and are empowered to work safely as recognised workers and rights-bearers. 🔍 A new poll shows that 25% of women think sex work should be stigmatised, exposing the ongoing challenges faced by those in the industry. This statistic highlights the urgent need for education and awareness around swork and the importance of respecting individuals' choices. Stigma not only affects the perception of swork, it massively impacts safety and rights. Challenging whorephobia is critical to generating more inclusive dialogue that supports the dignity of all individuals. Let’s fight carceral feminism with greater visibility, understanding and recognition that sex work is work hashtag #EndStigma #SexWorkIsWork #SupportSexWorkers https://lnkd.in/eWX9yc7s

#GoodNewsOfTheWeek 🥳 The New Orleans Health Department is launching new sex ed program! As the Institute of Women & Ethnic Studies, which has been the primary third-party sex ed provider for a south Louisiana region that includes New Orleans, has lost funding, the City health officials are stepping up with a pilot program for next school year. The goal – to make sure classroom teachers get trained to deliver medically-accurate lessons that fill the gap left by the organization's absence and provide sex ed that is comprehensive, age-appropriate and inclusive. We celebrate advocates and City officials who are making this change possible, setting a model for cities and towns nationwide to make sure students get the sex ed they need and deserve, no matter what! Last week Sex Matters hosted a meeting of people involved in the Sex Equality and Equity Networks (SEENs) and other sector and staff networks. Sector #networks are crucial, because the capture of organisations is not just a war on women but a war on competency. Unless people can speak freely about material reality, ask for clarity on policies and challenge irrational and harmful practices, they cannot do their jobs. The protection of #gendercritical beliefs in the #EqualityAct means that #employers #HR should treat people fairly when they speak up to say that sex matters. But many are still acting according to “#StonewallLaw”, viewing people who say that sex is real, immutable and important as bigots – to be, at best, barely tolerated. The day was a chance for groups at different stages of development and organisers from all over the UK to gain courage, make connections, share learning and inspire each other into action. It ended with planning and goal-setting, with each group resolving to take the next step and Sex Matters resolving to provide support in key areas. The #tradeunion group (TU Seen) was inspired to launch publicly with a Twitter account the following day! To find out more, including how to get involved, click below 👇 🔗 https://lnkd.in/deBX8q4V
