Uber’s safety tools are now customizable and easier to access Uber has launched a new safety preferences section that gathers all of Uber’s safety tools in one place and lets users schedule them to switch on automatically. Some of the safety tools you can customize include audio recording — which saves encrypted audio of the trip that Uber can use to investigate reported incidents — and PIN verification, so you can ensure you’re entering the right vehicle. You can also share your live location and ride details with people you trust via ShareMyTrip, while RideCheck notifies Uber when a ride suddenly stops or goes off-course. You can choose to activate all of Uber’s safety features by default for every ride or customize your settings based on time and location. For example, you can set it to turn on... I’m not sure how many of you are aware, but Uber introduced an audio recording feature a while ago, and it’s something I think deserves more attention. It allows riders and drivers to record audio during a trip if they feel uneasy or encounter any uncomfortable situations. In our day-to-day lives, we often take safety for granted until something unexpected happens. This feature is one of those things that you hope you never have to use, but it’s reassuring to know that it’s there if needed. It’s a simple step, but it can make a big difference in how safe both passengers and drivers feel. For me, this reflects how small but thoughtful measures can contribute to creating a better, more secure environment for everyone. It’s not just about convenience, but also about trust and peace of mind when we’re out on the road. Uber’s effort to put safety first shows how technology can address real concerns in everyday situations. You can turn on the Record Audio feature from Safety Measures in Settings Tab [screenshot attached below]. #UberSafety #TrustAndSecurity #RiderSafety #DriverProtection

Uber Implements New Safety Features to Improve Women’s Safety Uber has introduced a safety option specifically geared toward women riders to improve their safety. Now you can automatically activate four new safety preferences based on the time and location of the trip. For example: you can set the features to remain active during specified hours, (think late nights rides) and/or within 150 feet (50 meters) of a bar or restaurant. The settings let you set it and forget it in advance, so you don’t have to worry about it when you’re on the move and perhaps distracted. New features include: 🚗 Ride Check: Lets you know if the driver is going off-course, prompting Uber to check in 🚗 Sharing Ride Details: You can automatically share your ride details with friends and family, including the driver's information and your GPS location 🚗 Audio Recording: Enabled and encrypted for the entirety of the ride, available to Uber in the event something goes wrong 🚗 PIN: A 4-digit PIN that the passenger provides to the driver is now required to get the ride started. This is an added level of security in addition to checking the car’s make/model, license plate and driver’s name before getting into the car To access the option and features: Open the Uber app, scroll to Settings, then Safety. You can then enable all of them or only the ones you choose to individually. We’re glad to see these additional features to keep all of us safer. I Love this! Working in the service industry we are constantly looking for ways to improve our tour experience without increasing costs, this article is an example of how simple it can be.
This morning I experienced the art of exceeding expectations. From my Uber driver. It was early, and I hadn’t had coffee yet, so I was in a bit of a mood. I had ordered a regular, run-of-the-mill Uber, but up drives this beautiful, silver BMW. As I’m walking up, the driver gets out, comes to my side of the car and opens it for me. “Good morning!” I get seated, the inside is spotless, with two cushions stacked nicely on the other side of me. “Good morning,” he said again. “Over here are the three most-common device chargers, if you need. And I have SiriusXM radio so in front of you is a sheet of all the stations I can play for you, you just let me know if you have a preference.” I instantly started to smile. “You are my guest, and it is my pleasure to serve you.” Now I was a little taken aback, in a good way. A few minutes later, “is the temperature ok for you?” He tells me that he had just run it through a carwash so it would be clean, he wanted to give the experience he would want to have. He went on to share that he was retired, after a stint turning around one of America’s biggest airports. I could see why. When we got to my destination he got out, came around, and opened my door again for me. As I got out, he checked the backseat to make sure I hadn’t left anything behind. He had turned a regular experience into an extraordinary one of hospitality and care. It made me happy and made me want to share about him with the next person I saw. It was a good reminder, and something I strive for in my line of work!

Random Sunday Gripe: All the notifications/alarms from your devices. For example, Uber texts me more times per ride than an ex/a stalker. In a five minute span: “Get Ready”. Few minutes later: “You Ride Is Almost Here”. A minute later: “Remember to Check The License Plate”. Uber, I press a button and a hung over driver arrives. I know how this sh*t works. We can skip the 50 notifications. #Sundaymotivation #lazysunday #firstworldproblems

🚗 Getting into an Uber safely is crucial, especially in today's world. Here are some steps to ensure your ride is secure: 1️⃣ Check the Driver: Before getting in, confirm that the driver matches the information provided in the app. Check the car's license plate and make/model to ensure it matches the details on your app. 2️⃣ Share Your Trip: Use the share trip feature on the app to let your security personnel, friends, or family know your route and estimated arrival time. This adds an extra layer of security and accountability. 3️⃣ Sit in the Back: Always sit in the back seat, preferably behind the driver. This gives you space and ensures you're not directly accessible to the driver. 4️⃣ Child Lock: When getting into the car, take the time to check the child lock on the side of the door, if it is locked, make sure to unlock it. 5️⃣ Trust Your Instincts: If something feels off or uncomfortable during the ride, trust your gut. Don't hesitate to end the trip early or ask the driver to pull over in a safe location. 6️⃣ Stay Alert: Remain aware of your surroundings throughout the ride. Keep your phone charged and easily accessible, and avoid distractions like excessive phone use. 7️⃣ Rate Your Ride: After the trip, take a moment to rate your experience and provide feedback if necessary. This helps maintain accountability and ensures quality service for future rides. ❓ What other points would you give for taking an Uber or a taxi? #SafetyFirst #RideSafe #Uber #linkedin 🛡️ 🎥 All rights and credits are reserved to respective owners

Have you noticed how cab aggregators like Uber, Ola, and Namma keep sending new ride requests to drivers during an ongoing ride? Initially, I thought the new ride request only came when the current trip was about to end, but that's not the case. The requests keep coming, and it's a safety hazard as the driver loses focus. They read the request and then either reject or accept it, which sometimes even interrupts Google Maps, causing the driver to lose focus again. This feature is honestly useless because I haven't seen a single driver accept another ride in the middle of a current one. However, I have seen all of them lose their focus due to these distractions. There are more downsides to this, and if they want to continue with this feature, it should at least be time-based. For example: If Current Ride ETA < 2 minutes Then you can start showing new ride requests. It feels like all the product managers become drivers for a day just for their LinkedIn posts!

Uber is launching a blue verification badge. Here’s how riders can get a social media-style checkmark: In a new system aimed at providing better safety, the ride-hailing service will cross-check passenger account information with third-party databases. In an effort to make ride hailing safer and easier, Uber announced a new verification feature aimed at giving drivers more information about who is getting in their car. http://dlvr.it/TDMR1Z

Output of good user research! Discovering common pain-points that may not be really obvious and further developing to mitigate them!
Today, when I booked an Uber my phone decided to die just as I got to the pickup spot. Panic mode: Activated. At first I tried my luck by guessing the OTP for the ride. After noticing this, the driver asked for the last four digits of my phone number. Voila! It worked! Turns out Uber has this cool trick where if you can't provide the OTP, you can use the last four digits of your phone number to kickstart the ride. Not something that folks use often, but boy! did it save my day. #uber #SoftwareEngineer
