The National Highway Authority (NHA) plans to launch a helicopter rescue service to provide rapid medical assistance to individuals inj*ured in motorway accidents, ensuring swift help for victims. This service will complement the existing 1122 emergency helpline. The overseeing minister has also instructed the NHA to implement both short-term and long-term strategies to improve road safety. Emphasizing the need for transparency, the plan includes a comprehensive five-year action plan to enhance highways and motorways across the country. This initiative aims to strengthen emergency response capabilities and bolster overall road safety infrastructure. #MotorwayRescue #GovernmentTransparency #NHA #HelicopterRescue #RoadSafety #EmergencyServices

VESSEL REVIEW: Australia’s Northern Territory Police, Fire and Emergency Services recently took delivery of a new fast patrol RIB designed by Southerly Designs. 'Deutrom' was purpose designed, built, and equipped for police operations requiring very high speed and the ability to carry multiple personnel. The vessel will operate within coastal areas of up to 15 nautical miles. It will provide a quick response capability for near-shore search and rescue (SAR) missions allowing specialist police the ability to deploy to assistance calls faster and in greater safety and provide a stable platform to provide rescue. The vessel will also be used to provide a suitable boarding platform for vessel boarding in support of higher-risk policing operations. Other missions include dive support and deployment of police to remote locations without vehicle or aircraft access. Two 223kW (300hp) outboard engines capable of quiet operation can propel the boat to speeds of up to 50 knots. Combined with power steering and digital throttles with active ride control, the outboards make the boat highly responsive and provide predictable handling for the crew. Impressive rescue operation! It's incredible to see such teamwork ensuring the safety of everyone. https://lnkd.in/ehKXaRe
Last night we coordinated the rescue of three people after their recreational vessel sank near Block Reef, nearly 90km north-east of Airlie Beach. At 10.15pm (Qld time), we detected the vessel's emergency beacon, tasking the Cairns-based Challenger rescue aircraft and two rescue helicopters - CQ Rescue helicopter from Mackay and QG Air Rescue helicopter from Townsville - to the scene. Mackay Water Police also provided assistance, tasking the police vessel in support. The Mackay rescue helicopter located three crew on board the sinking vessel and dropped a life raft. The crew boarded the life raft moments before the vessel sunk. The water police vessel arrived on scene soon after, recovering all of three crew from the life raft. The three survivors were safely taken to shore, uninjured. This successful outcome is a timely reminder how important it is to always stow a registered emergency beacon, it could save your life.
