How We Think
This represents just one of many potential advancements aimed at extending the Weapon Engagement Zone for Marines involved in Expeditionary Advance Base Operations in the Pacific. While I grasp the importance of these advancements, I’m immediately drawn to the logistical constraints involved in maintaining and operating such equipment. I hope the problem framing of those logistical burdens does not rely on guaranteed air/sea superiority.

Japan continues to strengthen its deterrence capabilities with vertical launch missile systems being built in Japan under license from Lockheed Martin and installed from the fiscal year starting April 1 on Japan-designed and built Mogami frigates. All future frigates will include VLS. Japan will also significantly upgrade its Mogami class frigates for new ones ordered from 2024 onward. "The Japanese Defense Ministry said the new-class FFM will be fitted with longer-range missiles, enhanced anti-submarine capabilities, and improved capabilities for various maritime operations. With better anti-aircraft and search capabilities, the new FFM may become closer to an FFG (missile frigate)."
