https://lnkd.in/gH7PZhmk "It is my belief that The Prestige is Christopher Nolan’s best film, and here is why. The convoluted sequencing of the narrative jumping around in time and everything actually works, for perhaps the only time in his post-Memento filmography, to complement the plot and enhance it. Nolan, and his fiendishly idiotic brother, drive me crazy by insisting that every film they make must also be a study in nonlinear storytelling. Rarely is this actually justified by the story they are telling. In fact, it usually just smacks of gimmickry. Why did Dunkirk need to have three story-lines interlaced through time like some kind of illusory Joycean fever dream? It didn’t. Why did Season 2 of Westworld need to have that insanely complex structure? It didn’t. But in The Prestige, you can much more easily make the argument that the narrative complexity was necessary for the story they are telling – because it mimics the structure of a magic trick. Michael Caine even describes what we are about to see in the opening monologue, when he explains the anatomy of a magic trick:"

Directors Note: How dark do you need to go to defeat evil and how much of your soul will be lost? In this short film, I wanted to explore this existential question around the philosophy of GOOD vs EVIL...Can good truly defeat evil without becoming bad itself? In creating this, I didn't want it to only be a visual medium, I wanted sound to be just as important, a full apocalyptic environment. Cinematography Note: I knew I wanted this set in a moody environment with a lot of contrast. The space had white walls which meant light placement and composition were everything. The whole piece was shot on the @sonyalpha A7IV, and lensed with a 40mm and 65mm F2.8. Since the location isn't really important, I was able to maximize the tighter focal lengths to feel like we're present in the room right next to the character. Lighting: The goal was to attain soft lighting that is true to an indoor tungsten scene classic in films. Huge thanks to @zhiyun_tech & @rebeccazhu97 for providing me with the MOLUS 100B light, this thing is so powerful that I only used it at 1%…Yes! ONE PERCENT with a reflector pointing at an unbleached muslin for diffusion. I highly recommend this light for content creators and filmmakers or anyone for that matter. Yorgus Lanthimos newest film “Kinds of Kindness” just released in cinema, here’s my review: First of all, why and what is Kinds of Kindness? This time, Lanthimos creates three weird, crazy, darker, humor, unique, uncomfortable, unsettling and even a bit erotic human social experimental fable: Whether it’s Jesse Plemons play as a desperate man, or Emma Stone as a glamorous weird wife or a woman trying to find a saviour no matter what, all these characters are in a kindness heart and character wrapped up to show the sinister of human nature and the coldness of the changing human society, and the simple piano music to a certain extent made me think of Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut with the thrilling piano music, Robbie Ryan the cinematographer gives a settle cinematography and limpid cinematic journey by using various fixed establishing zoom lens shots shows to the audience, take the audience to three different brutal thriller fable story more and more in exposing the truth behind the hypocrisy. It will comfort you but retains a surreal edge. In the end, you may ask yourself what’s kindness and what’s sinister and what’s evil in the human kindness world? No matter what, there is no doubt that Kinds of kindness return of Lantimos that Greek weird storytelling and atmosphere cinematic style, it almost feels like The Killing of Sacred Deer (this particularly shows in the first story, aka The Death of the RMF), in which Kinds of Kindness is also deadly earnest about the many ways in which kindness can be a cruel and deviant master in a decaying society that’s lost its moral compass.
