The sharks, among themselves. Up to a few days ago, those who questioned Joe Biden's fitness for a second term were ridiculed by a large part of the media. Now the Economist has thrown him under the bus without a second thought. This shows that in some milieux, it is all fake smiles and no friendship. I supposed that there is a new editorial policy discussed with whoever finances the publication. Oops: 𝑉𝑎𝑒 𝑣𝑖𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑠 said the Romans, "woe to the vanquished." Fortunately, the US do not kill or maim their disgraced political leaders, as the Ottoman Empire used to do not too long agao, and Russia still does. It does not mean, however, that they show any mercy. I suppose that if some Republicans headpeople found a way to bring down Donald Trump, they would be happy to do so. The point I am making, is that Washington is just cutthroat palace politics. This year's presidential election is mostly about personal ambition, for who will get to the top. For most of some wanabees lurking in the shadows, it's a mix of fear, hatred, and unfulfilled ambitions (because if they fail, they will also be thrown under the bus). Now I have said elsewhere that I believe that not only Joe Biden should step down: Donald Trump should also step down! The reason why they should both resign, is because that would buy some time and energy for others, to select candidates around whom a little consensus could be built. Whereas, if they wait until the last, as Joe Biden did, then they expose themselves to an internal coup within their party. And if that happens, it might be not the most consensual person, but the most ambitious and ruthless shark around. Better an orderly retreat then, than a catastrophic rout that could benefit the wrong persons.
