It’s Spring! (well sort of) and time for a refresh of Bella and a re-focus on what we’re doing. We are trying to change some things about the site behind the scenes (details to come) but we are looking to sharpen things up, introduce new editorial content and new contributors and generally update us to the time (s) we are in now and moving forward. Building trusted relationships with adults, such as youth workers, is a lifeline for children and young people in the UK. In her recent heartfelt presentation on BBC's Sunday Morning Show, Ndidi Okezie, CEO of UK Youth, posed a critical question: What provisions, outside of school and home, are available to our young people that are free, accessible, and safe? The answer is all too often, not enough. In today's world, many young people face significant challenges—rising mental health issues, social isolation, and limited opportunities. Research tells us that for children and young people to truly thrive, they need trusted adults who can provide guidance, support, and stability. They need places where they feel safe and valued, and they need activities that inspire and engage them. As a passionate professional, I've witnessed firsthand the transformative power of these relationships. I've seen young lives change when they have access to caring mentors and enriching activities. Yet, for too many families, especially those struggling financially, these vital resources are out of reach. As a parent, I've also felt the weight of ensuring my children have these opportunities, knowing full well that not everyone can afford them. We must commit to creating and funding more free, accessible, and safe youth provisions. Our young people deserve the chance to connect, grow, and succeed. It's not just about their future; it's about the future of our communities and our society as a whole. Let's put our children and young people first, ensuring they have the trusted adults, activities, and community connections they need to thrive.
