🚀 The Spacetech Europe Report 2023 is now live! Jointly elaborated by Dealroom.co European Space Agency - ESA, EUSPA - EU Agency for the Space Programme, European Commission and Fondazione E. Amaldi, the ultimate guide to European SpaceTech has been presented at the 16th European Space Conference. The global Space sector was worth over half a trillion dollars, and today 77% of the market is #commercial. Globally, nearly $40B have been invested in Space Tech startups in the Upstream sector (operating in space or developing products for space), peaking in 2021. In 2023, the upstream sector continued to grow, while the downstream sector experienced a slight decline compared to 2022, but still performed very well, especially at a time of general contraction for all sectors (except energy and semiconductors). The Spacetech Europe Report 2023 is a key instrument for the entrepreneurial and investment space ecosystem to explore the venture capital distribution by segment and geography, the top spacetech investors, exit activity, valuations, Spacetech startup taxonomy and deep dives in launch vehicles, Earth observation & satellite imagery, space-derived technologies and much more. A thought provoking piece by Peggy Hollinger, Financial Times. As ESA follows the U.S. launch services model and opens up to commercial competition, European countries may find that there are other issues at play which could impede progress. Nationalism among countries could prevail and stymie a healthy and competitive launch market. #launch #commercialization #spaceindustry

Taiwan's TiSpace Makes Strides in Japan's $26 Billion Space Industry 👀 As we inch closer to 2025, we're keeping a close eye on TiSpace, the Taiwanese startup poised to make history as the first foreign firm to launch a rocket from Japan. Despite facing regulatory hurdles and a failed launch attempt in 2022, TiSpace remains undeterred, awaiting one last radio permit approval to launch its 12-meter sounding rocket. While TiSpace stands as the epitome of resilience and determination, the launch, set to take place in the remote town of Taiki, Hokkaido, is a testament to Japan's ambitions to double its $26 billion space industry and become Asia's space transportation hub by the early 2030s. Could we really be living in the age of the Asian Space Renaissance? If TiSpace’s test launch succeeds, the startup plans to boost their manufacturing in Japan, further entrenching their role in the global space arena. Now, this is the kind of diversity and innovation we need in the industry. And honestly, it’s about time! 🚀 #Space #Universe #SpaceEconomy #SpaceExploration #Innovation #Investment #Diversity #Inclusion #Future #NewSpace #InvestmentReimagined www.viaspaceholdings.com Source: https://lnkd.in/gZqZQAuA

"A centre to innovate design & manufacture of space hardware has today opened in Vienna. Driving commercialisation in space, it is the first of its kind of ESA-backed disruptive innovation centres outside ESA’s own premises. Work at the centre will focus on accelerating the development of manufacturing for space, including the rapid prototyping of new materials, propulsion systems and making spacecraft and satellites. Austrian companies will be able to join the Austrian ‘PhiLab’, along with European partners that can demonstrate that they are bringing value to Austria, as well as universities, institutes and research centres. The lab will be managed by accent, which is a high-tech incubator for Lower Austria, in collaboration with Brimatech, a Vienna-based market research and consulting company, and tecnet-tt, a technology transfer organisation. They will be joined by consultants Enspace and Vienna Airport, which is providing office space."... #ESA https://lnkd.in/g7PQNrg6 #EUspace #space #Austria #Vienna #innovations #design #manufacturing #EU #partnership #startups

Neither the Swedish government nor the established space industry in Sweden understands the gravity of the current situation here. There are only two options available: 1. Continue wasting money on entirely the wrong kinds of things - and never become a competitive supplier of commercially-relevant (NewSpace) capabilities 2. Begin implementing a drastically different approach (changing both the WHAT and the HOW) - in order to unlock the potential to achieve major economic and technological benefits Choosing correctly should presumably be a “no-brainer”? The full article (in Swedish) is here: https://lnkd.in/dtteDQ7X A translated version will also be posted soon…
